Default Too Cool - 2002 CRV

Hi All,

I recently had my AC pump replaced. I got a mechanic to do it because I don't have all the AC gas gear. Since then I've noticed that the engine does not come up to full temperature when I let it idle (warm up) in the morning. After about 5 mins of driving it warms up and I feel the heat on my feet in the car.
Also measured the top hose temp at 30degC after idling for 15mins... And the electric fan did not click-in either.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
All I can think of is the Cooling System thermostat (I'm old school) was removed but I can't understand why the mechanic would have touched that while doing the AC?.... I've also just put a litre of coolant into the expansion bottle and I'm fairly sure it was up to the line before I had the AC done.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.. Thanks.

Neo

Curious as well. Bump.

Have you talked to the mechanic to see what he says about this?

If I understand:

The operating temp of the engine is lower than it used to be. You measured the temp of the top radiator hose (coming out of engine clock into radiator) and it was 30 degree C after 15 minutes of idle.

How did you measure the hose - with an infra thermo?
Do you have an ODBI gauge plugged in to see what the temp actually is, or just going by the needle in the instrument panel?
How does it operate driving - ever go up in temp? Does that hose increase in temp after a short bout of driving?

If your water pump is blown/not moving you won't circulate coolant. Is the belt missing on that? Maybe he forgot to thread it back on the water pump?

If the thermostat is blown it won't open and let coolant circulate.

Thanks Jim,

This is a great reply.

Yes it was an infered thermo but I don't have a ODBI gauge. The gauge on the dash comes up to normal temp at idel but does not increas even after driving. I will check the temp with the infered thermo, after driving and come back to you on that.... will also check the belt... just incase.

Many thanks

No prob Maybe an AutoZone or similar store will pop a gauge on for you and let you see what the water temp is reading. But if that top hose is still cool after driving then coolant is not circulating at all, so that would be water pump or thermostat. I am wondering if the belt is just not on the water pump since you just had the AC worked on. Makes sense to me.

Sorry for the very late reply.
I messed around with the heater water control valve a few days ago and now it's working OK ... But not really sure why?

Many thanks for your help Jim

Huh. I was betting on the belt not being connected! At least it is working!
