High Compression Build Help?
My car needs new rings (burning oil) I figure while im in there I should get new pistons, and bearings..
I am curious if its worth it to put "high compression pistons/rings" in?
Its a d16y5 (with 9.4 CR)
I at least want to put D16y8 pistons/rings (9.6 CR)
My question is can I upgrade to say 10-12 compression on all other stock parts (I know the y5 head can support 12.5 compression easy cause GX uses basically same head...But would I need other supporting mods? (rods, cam, ecu,...)
Would I need to "tune it (go to dyno and get custom ECU)?
Would this increase mpg (due to higher efficiency, or would it require more fuel?)
Thanks!

Simply going from 9.4:1 to 9.6:1 won't require anything different. Going all the way to 12 would definitely require a proper tune, and you would need the usual compliments of supporting modifications to work. Cam, intake, header, and a freer flowing exhaust would be a necessity for it to work properly.
Adding the .2 compression will basically do nothing...But not doing it will do less..
I don't want to have it unreliable (as it is a DD) so .2 will not stress the motor anymore then stock.
I don't want to mess with a cam, or any "serious" mods...especially a tune.
Is there a good C.R for a stock engine (with just pistons/rings)
I am not against exhaust, intake,(bolt on's) but I basically want to add the compression to increase thermal/engine efficiency, and SAVE fuel...So adding a big cam, bigger injectors, beefy rods are not what I am looking for (regardless of "power" gains).

I have a D16Y5 (Civic HX)
I am going to do pistons/rings on in and decided on either y8 pistons (booting compression to a conservative 9.6. (.2 over stock)
OR
I could get D16A6 pistons, bringing compression to 10.1!
I DO NOT want any modification passed pistons and rings... Do you guys think 10.1 is safe for stock Y5 (NO OTHER MODS)?
I assume I would need premium gas at 10.1 right?
Thanks !

Yes, you would need premium. No, it isn't safe with "no other mods". You would need to have your car properly tuned for it.
Wait, you already have a thread. Why did you make another one for the same question? Don't do that.

The y5 runs efficiently as is, and gets better gas mpg than the y8. That is all being controlled by the ecu. Best bet is to rebuild it back to stock, basicly a fresh build.

Thats what I was thinking. Going from a .2 increase to a whole 1 still doesn't make sense. What is your goal?
