Default D16A6 Rebuild

Hello!

A good friend of mine gave me his D16A6 motor for free, and so I am going to make him proud by turning it into a power-packed engine.

I am glad to have the mechanics shop at my disposal for an hour every weekday. Right now I am dismantling every bolt and nut. It's down to the head now. Tomorrow I will take the head off and start gutting. I am following this guide for a rebuild: http://crxcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?t=1128

I am hoping to build it up for a turbo if I can find some decent prices for quality material.

I was quoted 282$ for a new distributor from Napa Auto Parts here in Canada, so if you have any knowledge of any manufacturer's, re-seller's with good deals let me know please

Often you can get a warranty from a parts store for distributors. If you can get it for less and have a lifetime warranty, then that should do just fine - if it fails then just go get a new one.

Seems like a fun project!
You should invest in a quality manual from Helm manual
Helm Incorporated: Product Search Engine
rather than some online guide.

When you get everything torn down, inspect the bore in the block (or have inspected) with proper instruments to make sure you aren't wasting time and money with your efforts.

What are your power goals for your engine if you plan to add turbo?
The stock piston rods are only good for about 240whp on the high end before they get sketchy (assuming a great tune). 200~200whp is a better bet. My suggestion is that if your goal is over 200hp then at least invest in a set of aftermarket rods - which will likely in turn require aftermarket pistons.

If you want to do a big boost build for fairly cheap, check into using YCP Vitara pistons and a decent set of rods. It will drop your compression low so it will be a total dog of a motor if you don't turbo.

Thank you for the reply, 4drEF. I'm looking for 250-350HP out of this build if I can add the turbo for a decent price. I found a write-up of a build which included the following:

Engine Build:
-Resurfaced and decked.
-75.5mm bore and hone.
-Vitaras, Wisecos, or CP.
-Eagle or custom forged rods.
-Delta 272 camshaft
-Bisimoto springs
-Reconditioned and back cut OEM valves
-Viton valve seals
-ARP headstuds
-Y8 head gasket 75mm
-ACL bearing set (main/rod/thrust) or OEM
-NGK wires and plugs
- Comp stage 4.

-3inch custom exhaust.
-750cc injectors low impedance
-Bullseye spec turbo. 70a/r
-Autoworks mini ram
-Tial 38mm waste
-Tial Q BOV
-Autoworks charge pipe and intercooler
-Autoworks 3inch down pipe stainless
-Omni 3map sensor
-Walbro 255
-PWM boost control
-Boost and oil temp gauge
-Catch can
-Neptune Management
-A nice, nice tune......

I probably can't afford everything on this list, so price-cuts may be necessary.

Check out p2p0.com or google that I forget there site, they are by far the best price on vitara pistons aswell they sell custom length forged rods to bring the compression up to 9:1, and also have acl bearings. They do a great price on combo kits when you buy everything together. Like dirt cheap, definitely check them out.

Also if you are getting a delta 272 camshaft, you do not need to spend $3-500 on upgraded springs/retainers etc, stock will do just fine with that cam.

VRSexhaust also has very nice 3" mandrel exhaust for our Crx's for dirt cheap aswell and you can pick the metal material youd like, they arent bolt on though, either weld or clamp it together, but the price for quality and precise mandrel bends cant be beat.

Could save alot on the turbo setup aswell, but that looks like a kit from goautoworks and you seem a little set on it, I suggest possibly switching to a cast manifold for reliability, better turbo placement and $300 saved. They even sell stainless steel cast manifolds now (yes stainless, but casted) for about $120

Your making good choices though, and that engine looks like a prime candidate
