Highly impossible to have a d16y8 to NOT have vtec unless someone swapped a d16y7 head on it. I suggest you check your wiring and ecu. Add a test light if you have to.

^^ what he said. What makes you think you have a D16Y8? What year/trim do you have? Any pics of the engine code?

It says D16y8 on the block, I have a 97 civic ex. If it does have v-tec, it's no *****. Is there any way I can improve it?

No. That's not how VTEC works. It isn't a magical go fast happy pill for your engine. You have a slow grocery getter that puts less than 100 WHP down. Accept it, and move on. If you actually want to make it faster, read the FAQ sticky.

Then you just have to accept the fact that you have a 1.6 liter, single cam grocery getter, and move on in life.

So what do kind of performance parts are you looking to get thats in within this budget of yours? Because I'm not seeing anything on the market that can make that imaginary power goal you are looking for.

Original poster you need to begin in the FAQ's. If you have further questions that aren't answered there post a topic
