ok, i have a 97 civic ex... so that means i have a d16y8, i know that... i've searched this and cannot find out what i'm looknig for... my question is... if my engine block doesn't say vtec on it, is it still a vtec? in my haynes manual, it says that my engine is a vtec, but it also says it should say it on the engine if it is

wouldn't say on the block if its vtec for these years, i believe the older ones had VTEC on the valve cover. Check the block code if it is d16y8 then your vtec, also you could check for a vtec solenoid behind the distrb.
