Rough Idle? After Long Drive
It seems with ever I drive my Accord for long periods of time specially on the freeway going about 70 mph for about 30minutes. Then when I get on the off ramp. And when I come to a complete stop at the traffic light my car idles rough almost what feels like a misfire but No MIL Light or Codes And No low idle. But I also found out that when I turn the AC On or let off the brakes then let the Car roll then apply brakes again. The Rough idle goes away. My guess is that it could be a ignition coil problem or Connector/wiring problem or loose spark plug possibly #5 from what i heard that it sometimes loosens on its own.Or Maybe air in the cooling system Because I just recently i found a small amount of engine coolant on the fitting side of the upper radiator hose. I'm not sure on what's causing this rough idle because its never done this before. Any help appreciated
Are you sure it's rough idle, or just vibrations? Stopping from high speeds might keep more pressure on the engine mounts, then when you let the brake pedal up and let the car roll a little, it eases the pressure. I would check for broken motor mounts.
yea I think the front and rear engine mounts are worn but those are expensive and difficult to replace. But I'm thinking it could be air in the engine coolant because of the pin hole leak I discovered in the upper radiator hose. Actually how would you go about telling how the engine mounts are broken. Doesn't say in the factory service manual how to find out.
Put the car in Drive, hold the brake pedal firm, then push the accelerator down, if the front mount is broken, the engine will rise up in the front. Use reverse the same way to check the rear mount. If the front mount is broken, the passenger side mount is probably broken too. I would suggest Hydraulic mounts, unless you like a lot of vibrations. Here is a picture of a front mount, with the safety bracket removed. You can see the three marks on top of the engine bracket, where it was hitting the safety bracket. And here's a link for the how-to on changing the mounts.
