Default Would you drive a 95 accord from coast to coast 3,000 miles?

I have a 95 accord 4 cy. auto sedan with around 200k miles on it. Recently I told a mechanic to check for any problems, he recommeneded replacing: timing belt, water pump, a sway bar bushing, rear breaks, new tires, and some various other belts and such. So all that stuff is new.

Tune up was done at a different time... probably 20k miles ago (wildly estimated).

So would you guys drive this car from coast to coast 3,000 miles? If I do it, what should I keep in mind? My goal is not to get stranded in the middle of nowhere, or anywhere for that matter, obviously, as well as optimizing for freeway driving......

Thanks guys.

Change out the trans fluid, have a pressure test done in each gear. Verify the sensors are all within spec, TPS, MAP, O2S.

Every other weekend, I drive 800 miles to pick up my daughter and drop her off. My car has never broken down on me for anything other than a flat tire. I do a lot of preventative maintenance, but for me, I would easily trust my 1994 Accord on a cross country trip with 280k miles.

Swap out your thermostat.

Over the course of the summer i would easily drive my 200k Del Sol 500 miles per run with no problems. All Honda's are rather reliable, i would just bring basic tools to fix little things like broken radiator hoses or flat tires. Maybe some sandpaper for grounds...antifreeze, just little things that can be affected by weather.

Also check ALL your fluids before you leave as-well as tire pressure.

I think the biggest question is, have you ever driven the car for an extended amount of time?

Short trips will not show minute issues. A good long drive/cruise to get the drivetrain fully up to temp and heat soaked will show if there are any issues. If not, just make sure the timing belt does not need to be changed, and enjoy your drive.

If the water pump and timing belts haven't been changed then I would definitely do that. It actually has two belts--a timing belt and a balancer belt. I had to do my head gasket at 208,000 miles and changed all this at the same time. Changed the timing belt, balancer belt, tensioners, cam gasket, crankshaft gasket, power steering belt, and alternator belt. If you need video instructions, Eric the Car Guy has a great video tutorial for 15 bucks on his site. I have a 4 door 95 Accord also. I did the job myself and must have done it right because nothing blew up and I didn't have any parts left over. Runs like a charm.
