Troubleshooting: 95 Civic D16Y8 "lags" during acceleration over 3k rpms

I have a 95 civic ex with a D16y8 motor. I had the old distributor that didn't fit the new motor correctly so I bought a working used one and bought a new cap for it but had to switch out the connections on them since my 95 had 2 instead of the just one the new distributor had and since then I now have a problem where when I press on the gas it lags and accelerates slowly up until 3,000 Rpms and runs fine I also have a problem when my car is in neutral or at a stop it idles at about 400 Rpms like it's about to stall can anyone try and help?

Did you read the troubleshooting steps in your repair manual?

Same problem in my EG sedan
Im check the timing on my car since I replaced the cam seal and water pump. I also replaced the distributor.
ill be checking my spark plugs after if the timing isn’t off if the problem is still there I’ll check my fuel pressure
ill let you know if I find anything
