96 accord manual transmission
My car is a 96 accord ex. Can I swap my manual transmission for one that came from a dx or cx? Or is there any difference? ( i called a local junk yard and they said they only have one for a dx.. And that it would not fit my car) My transmission is dead.
If I remember right, the Accord DX/LX use the same tranny as the EX. The only difference is the VTEC in the EX engine. If I am wrong, correct me. But they should be the same if not interchangeable. There isn't an Accord CX also... At least not in the USA.
I know that in the civic the gears are different... But in the accord.. I've been told they are completely different.. They charge 160 for the dx.. And 350 for the ex one..
Oh I see what you mean now. Umm, there's a crap ton more Civics than Accords in junk yards so thats probably why the prices are that different. But as far as interchanging then, good luck. The F-Series Trannies from the Accords like Accords and Preludes generally. Civic Trannys tend to properly go into other cars with D and B Series Engines. Teggys, CRX's and Del Sols... I don't remember anyone putting a D/B series tranny into the F series cars. but if you are low on cash and need a new tranny, see if yours can be rebuilt/ find another junk yard or maybe ebay. IF possible, find another junkyard and save yourself the mess of swapping Civic trannys into Accords.
My bad, I wasn't clear enough. In the civics you can use any manual transmission.. I believe some of them will give you better fuel economy than others... But in the accord.. A transmission from a accord dx will fit in a accord ex? did you say that I can use an prelude manual transmission on my accord? What years should it be?
Transmission from the 92-96 Prelude is the same, externally, as the 90-97 Accord.
Differences are gear ratios depending on engine/body. I have heard/read about there being differences in the DX/LX/EX gearing, but I have yet to see anyone produce/chart the gear ratio differences.
Accords have the tallest of gear ratios for that highway cruising/economy.
Two sets of Accord gear sets 90-93/94-97.
Wagons have same gear set but lower final drive
F22 Lude has lower gear set and final drive
H23 Lude has unknown gear ratios.
H22 VTEC Lude has the lowest gear ratios/final drive for maximum acceleration/to operate the H22 in its power band.
Accord FAQ has gear ratios listed.
If you just want a little more acceleration advantage, get the F22 Prelude trans. If you desire maximum acceleration potential and don't care about mileage get the H22 VTEC trans.
If the car has an F22 it will fit. F23 was slightly different. H22 you will have to be careful as there was the SH ATTS unit which is a bastard.
