Im swapping my 1997 civic cx hatchback light grey interior to dark K color interior.

So far i pretty much have everything except carpet and dash. Carpet is next, dash is last lol.

So my question is can i remove this rear floor beam?....

I got some dark grey rear panels and they dont fit properly by the front seat belt area because there seems to be a long beam going across the whole bottom of the lower rear seat area that looks removable with like 15 bolts or so, Then i believe these rear panels will fit perfect. So im assuming i have some 99-00 rear panels and the 99-00 didnt come with the beam? Would it be safe to remove this floor beam? I know its there for a reason but if the 99-00 didnt come with one then i should be fine or is there a different shape beam on the 99-00. I dont want to cut the panel i just want to know if im safe with out the floor beam....thanks guys

No i didnt check any sites...i just wanted to get it over with so i just took the beams out. lol i think its a ten pound reduction also lol.

After doing a little research it seems 97-00 Hatchbacks had the support beams just under the fronts of the rear seats,and the 1996 is the only year that didnt have it on the 96-00 models. I do not know about 92-95. So the panels i have are from a 96. But anyways just thought id share that if anyone has a issue later on.

 

...interesting, thanks for the pic. Noticed my 96 only has a stiffener under the front seats but can't see if it's a bolt-in under the carpet.
It's a shame the purple was painted over - it was a cool color. Don't think I've seen a purple one in years

 

Yea its a 3 piece beam thing, i just took the two sides off and left the middle part. And im kinda scared i hope i dont ever get t-boned. But if i ever come across the dark grey panels that are from the 97-00 Ill put it all back on. Im sure ill score some from the junk yard one day ive seen a couple of them before i was into the hatchbacks of course lol.

Yea the dark violet pearl amethyst was a pretty cool color. I have no idea why previous owner painted it rattle can white and inside the door jams and trunk is all chipping and peeling. Im going to redo it in a snow pearl white soon. If i can find a person selling the stock dark purple hood,fenders,both bumpers,doors,tail gate,before i start on pearl white, I may go and buy the dark purple paint and just get the roof and rear quarters done but i probably wont be that lucky to find those parts lol.
