Icon6 2003 rear brake caliper issue

Hi all. I changed over the pads/rotors and when I tried screwing in the piston it was so tight I could hardly turn it and when I do the rubber dust cover wrinkles to the point I think any more turning will tear it away. Is this caliper ceased and do I need to buy a new caliper?

You could probably get the piston boot loose with a tiny screw driver, but the rust that is probably holding on to the boot is also probably what will cause the piston to jam up in the cylinder. You can pull the piston boot out a little with the screw driver, and check for rust, and lube around the outside of the piston, but if there is rust, it's too late for that. If the piston is rusty, I would replace the caliper, and probably the opposite side (you want to keep both sides exactly the same). How long has it been, since the last brake job?

I was eventually able to turn it but the rubber tore. I am replacing the caliper. I tried to get the hose off the caliper but it seems to come with ther caliper as a unit. Does the new unit have the flex hose on it where it attaches to the body of the car? The other caliper is okay, it turned in nicely. I bought the car in 2008 and have no records showing a caliper replacement.

Thanks BLKFLSH, I was also able to see the caliper removal on UTUBE to answer my question above.

Brake light and TCS dash light are on now even though I bled the whole system. How can I get rid these lights? I tried pulling the battery cable.

This might work, might not. I've never had to try it. Good luck

By pushing in a hose to drain the brake fluid it pushed a float back jamming it, which triggered dash lights. Steep slope and a rubber mallet on the reservoir released the jammed float. Dash Lights then went out, so beware of a sensitive float in the brake fluid reservoir.

I have always sucked the fluid out of the reservoir with a little vacuum hand pump. I'll be sure to be careful next time, thanks.
