Default Good info on a D15Z1

so i just found out i have a d15z1 in my 92 civic cx hatchback. Its a canadian civic. it has stickers from canada all over underhood.

so my question is what is it. I dont think the vtec was hooked up from whoever swapped it in. I know its vtec-e. but idk if thats good or not. Im just trying to figure out what i need to do to it. I know it burning oil in the high rpms

so i wanna do a rebuild or swap soon. im just trying to figure out about the z1 thats in it. i need to know how to tell if vtec is hooked up or if the engine was even hooked up rite and not jus thrown in there.

See what ecu you have first and post. Is your check engine light on?

how do i tell what my ecu is. I ran my codes. its obd1. it came up code 41 and code 48. both are o2 sensor codes. i dont have a rear sensor but i do have a front sensor. it never had a back sensor when i got it. it didnt have an exhaust on it but came with a whole header back exhaust.
code 41 is a o2 sensor code
code 48 is a o2 sensor heater

I really don't have anything nice to say...do a search! There's no mystery about the D15Z1, how to find out what ECU you have, that just because your car was made in Canada, doesn't make it a Canadian car. If you don't understand VTEC-E and you're going to swap the motor anyway who cares if your VTEC is hooked up. The car produces 92hp at 5500 rpm. Burn all the oil you can at high rpm, it isn't a B18Cx.

Replace your O2 sensor. It's either a 4 wire or 5 wire depending whether you have a 93-95 California (4 wire) ECU P07-L00/L01 or 92-95 Federal (5 wire) ECU P07-A00/A01.

Hey man I bought a 93 si with z1 and I have the same codes along with 28 but that was my iac anyways, Im not to knowledge but it being my first car I researched it a little bit and I ran into the same problems the 5 wire o2 sensor for the a01ecu runs about 300(could chance it and pick one up from ebay but I didnt bother) and I know I was missing the egr box out of the VX. What I've found out is typically they go bad considering there age, you have to buy new which is pretty pricey. Again im not 100% sure, anyone correct me if im wrong. My suggestion would be a swap

OBD1 doesn't have a rear O2 sensor.

The EGR system sitting on the intake manifold has to be cleaned of carbon deposits periodically. The other part of the system is a control box on the firewall. If your car didn't come with the z1 originally you'll have to locate one and wire it up.
