Default trans dx vs ex

I just recently bought a 2000 ex which I'm finding new stuff about daily. So I was on the freeway and decided to wind out the gears. In second gear I shift at 7000rpm to third it bogs down to 4500rpm. So my guess is I have a dx trans. So would swapping to the original ex trans keep it in vtec range so it isn't bogging?

No. The DX, EX, and HX transmissions all drop from roughly 7k to roughly 4500 from 2nd to 3rd. When you shifted, were you going ~60, or ~70?

Not too sure. I'll check on my drive home and see what all the gears top out at.

2nd is the only gear you need to figure out which transmission you have, assuming it hasn't been fucked with.

There was too much traffic but I don't think I can get 70mph out of 2nd. I was at 6800 maybe 60mph

Then you have an EX transmission.

So what's up with the 3rd gear drop to 4500rpm? That's normal? I had a jdm itr on my last civic and it was always singing in vtec haha

Yes, that's normal. D series Civics are grocery getters, regardless of trim.
