Re: syncro question about the ex and dx tranny
how come a rebuild kit comes with new blocking rings and no new gears. they obviously must come off

Re: syncro question about the ex and dx tranny
Technically the blocker ring is supposed to be a matched item with its gear. That being said other than the way its worn, its more than likely not any different than the comparable ring in the other trans. Best suggestion is pull them apart and compare them. Using one form a different gear probably won't work quite as smoothly or last quite as long but I kinda doubt it makes a real big difference.

it will be fine replace. you wont have any problems with it other then you will drop a few more rpm in that gear when you shift.

so your saying swap the gear with it too then? im going to run it through the calc real quick. it stilll wont be as long as the dx bc the final drive is different. i just dont have the cash for a rebuild kit right now since i just spent it all on new tires

you might as well try to match everything up the best you can. if the gears look good leave them alone, it would suck to put it back together and still have a problem though

Re: syncro question about the ex and dx tranny
The syncros are the same between all '92 - '00 D-series trannys. 1st/2nd syncros are identical, 3rd/4th syncros are identical and 5th is an oddball. Odds are the 4th gear syncro out of the donor tranny will be in better shape than 3rd, both are the same, use whatever is in better shape. If you have a worn or damaged slider you can always rob it from the DX tranny as well.

Re: syncro question about the ex and dx tranny
Nope, but something you could do is take a VX third gear and flip it around for 4th, giving you a very low 4th gear (its beed done before)
