Who has a performance rebulit SOHC VTEC motor and how much did it cost??
Well in a quest to find out why my car is soo slow I had one of the techs at work today do a compression test. cyl#1 147 #2 175 #3 142 #4 177 . He also did a leak down test... I didnt record the numbers but they were really bad. According to the honda manual the motor is almost to the point of being a dud. It is a d16y8 by the way. I was thinking of rebuilding the motor, all motor using JE forged pistons, rings, crank bearings, and mabye some head work, just to freshen things up. A couple questions though. Do I really need to do crank bearings, and such, or can I just do the pistons, rings and headwork?? I am really dissapointed that this is the 3rd used motor that has been in this car and I have gotten 3 duds
. This is the reason I dont want to do a B series swap, because if I spend alot of money getting a B series and it is a dud I would be pissed. Thanks for the help.-Jay
With that rebuild you're gonna be spending quite a bit. (Yes, you will want new bearings... you don't have to, but you should) I'd say with the amount of cash you'd spend for that, you'd be better off buying a B series motor (B18C!!!!!) It's all up to you.
Dude that sucks. I guess I lucked out when I got my y8 - 210 psi in all cylinders. When you buy an engine, buy it from a place that has a compression and startup guaruntee. At this point I would go B-series.
