die and tap..tap broke off..now what.

is it possible to extract a tap that has broken off? its the thread that hold the thermostat so it hard to get pressure in there. help!! thanks.

i was fixing a bolt that was stripped. also..if the tap is so strong..how come it broke? a die set cant pull it out? thanks. it broke with very little pressure. any ideas? thanks
You can drill it out with a carbide drill (or concrete drill if you're cheap like me), make sure you buy a few. There is a device called a tap extractor, it has prongs that fit into the channels in the tap, that may do the trick.
Taps have high hardness but are brittle, it will break not bend. You probably put too much side load on the tap, next time use a tapping fluid or oil to lubricate the tap. Also back out the tap occasionally, helps move the shavings and get oil to the cutting surface.

to the guy who said a tap extractor. taps are made of high speed steel. Very hard metal. only 2 ways that you can get it out, tap extractor(try this first) or a carbide drill (only do if #1 dosent work).
