HELP! Problems when viewing 1.4 civic type s
Hi guys, hopefully someone on here can help.
I'm looking at a 2011 honda civic with 31k miles on it. It's the 1.4 type s, since I'm only 22 it will keep the insurance down and look great.
Firstly on viewing, I checked under the oil cap and there was a build up of creamy coloured goo, I know build up can signify head gasket. But at 30k miles? Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? The car salesman said it was cause the car had been sitting idle and was from the filters? Is this true? Or is it a sign to stay away?
Any help will be great and also any views or reviews on the specific model greatly appreciated

The salesman was a mechanic, but took everything he said with a pinch of salt. Do you think it's the head gasket? I didn't think that would be an issue on a 30k miles honda?
Cream coloured oil would signify water in the oil. If it was in the cylinder heads oil gallery, then it might indicate water in the crankcase.
It is quite possible that this means very little, or that your car was at one time a a Royal Navy torpedo trainer. Have another garage look at it when you take it out for a test drive. See what they say about it.
If you do buy the car, make a complete fluid and filter change part of the deal from the get go.
If it was a minor water intrusion, chances are it will come to nothing, but if the oil pump or the valves have been starved because of the water, it could become costly.
Best of luck to you.

The guy that owns the garage said it was just cause it had been sitting up. And is giving a 3 month warranty, so if I got it inspected I reckon I could hand it back if the other garage say it's serious?
Also it's getting a service so I'll make sure they include those changes.
Thanks for your help guys.
