As I was checking my spark plugs I noticed all the plugs have oil on them. I took off the valve cover and all the gaskets were fine which they should be since I put them on less than a year ago. The car is running fine so far with little issues. Do I need to buy a new gasket set? And what could of caused this issue? Thanks!

 

U don't say the motor but I am assuming it's the d15, if so up will have to pull the rocker arm assembly off (b sure to keep it all together) and there r 4 o-rings under it, 3 normal and one that looks like a figure 8. I don't believe u get them in a valve cover gasket set... hope that helps.

 

Most likely it's your spark plug tube seals gone bad. They are very inexpensive to replace and the first place I would start.

Maybe I missed it, but how did you come to the conclusion that it's a D15?

 

haha same here, how did you come to that conclusion? The picture? I snagged a couple of them for like 5 bucks, that's the easy part. Getting them off their existing resting place is the hard part

 

No its a b18b1. But is it possible that I just over tightened it and warped the o - rings when I first put it on?

 

Are those just the o-rings that come with a gasket set?

 

Because if so, they're less than a year old so I don't know why that would be the issue

 

Oil on which side of the plug? The business end or the wire end?

 

They're very fragile and have a spring inside that can bend and pop out very easily from installation and removal, hense giving you a leak into the spark plug cylinder..

They usually come with a valve cover gasket set, but you can also buy them individually..

 

I don't know the names of stuff. I pulled out the plugs and it was on the end of them.

Yeah, I was asking which end, the end the spark plug wire goes onto or the end that goes into the motor?

 

I was thinking the part that goes in the cylinder. If thats the case. Then guides and seals are what you need. I doubt its a ring issue.

When does it start to smoke? On start up or after going down the road?

 

That's the thing is it doesn't smoke at all and it runs fine. But how much are guides and seals

I just assumed it was, lots of people change the valve cover gasket plug hole gaskets and wonder y there still getting oil on the top of the plug... just sounded like that was the case. My mistake.

 

So it is the positive terminal, meaning the part where the coil wire plugs into, that has oil on it? If so, that's because of your valve cover seals not sealing properly and letting oil leak into the plug hole.

You either bought cheap parts or didn't torque the valve cover the correct way.

A word of advice, please at least know what you are trying to describe so other members don't have to figure it out for you. It's extremely frustrating to try to help someone who's not trying to help himself.

 

Regardless of how old they are, sometimes taking the cover on and off even once can create a slit in the rubber. Happened to me when I didn't fit the cover on correctly and after that they're history. Pick up a valve cover gasket set from rock auto for like $15, should solve the problem.

 

its ur tube seals clean the surface good with rubbing alcohol before putting the new gaskets on
