Default Q about crankcase breather hose feeding into intake pipe...

I was inspecting my intake hose today, and I noticed something kind of disturbing. It's totally clean, but right after the crankcase breather hose leads back into it, the inside surface is all mucky and gross. This leads me to believe that there is some nasty schit getting fed back into my TB!
What do you think? Performance or longevity concern? Should I filter it somehow?
TIA
Dan

well, it is actually doing what it was designed to do. Search on this forum for "oil catch can" or something like that. It is where that tube goes to a seperate canister before the intake, and catches all that muck.

I did the search, and found my answer. You were mostly right.
Here's the deal: that muck getting vented from the crankcase is bad for everything. And an oil catch can makes it better. BUT: the car does not come with one. That's something people add when they get turbos, I guess.
I could just unplug it and let the crankcase vent into the atmosphere, but that would be illegal. I think that's what I'll do though, until I get a chance to rig some sort of filter dealy. I don't want my car breathing oil!

Actually, it does come with one. It's called an oil separator box. It's that black grill looking thing latched onto the back of the block that the PCV valve sits on top of.

The boxes must not be sufficient enough b/c oil catch cans still catch a well full of oil.

So would those little breather filters solve this? I always wondered what they were for...

Keep the vacuum, the head likes it.
More RPMs = increase vacuum.
Why would you rather have the oil fly
all over your engine compartment?
Unless you are going to get a seperator,
I think you should leave it. So does Honda.

oil getting sucked into your engine will lower the octane rating which can lead to detination. just something to think about.
