H22 and F22 trans - Thoughts
93 Civic swap question - I found a great local deal on a H22 block mated to a JDM H22 head and a F22 VTEC 5 speed. I know the good points of the H2B swap, but I'm not too familiar with the pros and cons of using the F22 trans. (I know I'll need special axles). Any suggestions please...
Need to know which F22 tranny you have.
Do you know how many F22 trannys there are? lol
No matter though, here is the link to Kronn's master list of H/F trannys:

Find your transmission and compare it to desirable H transmissions and decide for yourself

Cons: you have to cut the chassis for the shifter box, cable shifters suck, gearing is similar to a D-series DX trans, bad axle angle, heavier
Pros: engine fits under the hood , no need for a h2b header, a bit more timing cover clearance, you can run the dust cover for the flywheel/clutch area
As you see, all Cons are performance related. It will still be faster than an LS & b16 swap, but the gearing will make it slower than a healthy GSR swap.

It's a hair higher geared than other H22 trannies, but not noticable. Shift points vary by 1-3mph at most. It will be very similar to a GSR transmission gearing. The following link doesn't have the 97-01 model, so just use the 93-96 Prelude VTEC option:
