1995 honda civic fan not kicking in.
I got a 1995 honda civic DX. I recently had to replace the radiator. When I put it all back in the fan won't kick in. I don't know if it stopped work before or after the new radiator because the car won't run long enough because of a bad ignition contol module and coil. I replaced the temp sensor, fan switch, burped the engine and tried a new fan. Still doesn't kick in, any suggestions?
This^. All so jump the fan switch plug. This is done by taking a piece of wire and touching the two pins in the plug. Ignition switch must be in the on position. If the fan turns on your wiring is good and it's a bad switch or the motors not hot enough to turn the fan on. Could be a stuck thermostat. But test the fan first to see if it works.
Already tried a new fan I got out of my boyfriends Honda and it works in his but will not start in mine. I like the idea of jumping the switch to test wiring, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bad wire. Already got a new thermostat and fan switch and put them both in. I was going to check the fan relay next.
Don't know if this will help, because I really don't understand much about this mechanical stuff... but when my car wouldn't start, we put in a switch and ran one wire to the battery and the other to .... some other wire inside the engine, which bypassed many of the electrical / fuses / clutch.... and now I turn the key, and push the button, and bingo, it works! : )
By the way, a new thermostat can be bad, check by boiling it, and see if it opens & closes with the temperature change.
I wonder if there's a reset button for the fan? I think mine stoped working after I refilled the radiator... but then again... not real sure how long it hasn't been working. Car doesn't seem to get hot, even though I drive it all over, but the antifreeze does get lower. I try not to drive it in the heat of the day, cuz my air conditioner also does't work...

Your AC doesnt work because your fans dont work. I was going to suggest turning on AC to force fans on...but thats out. You likely blew the radiator over heating it.
check "Coolant Fan Switch", and fan relay. Theres not much that halts fans besides wiring, bad fan, switch or relay.

My fan for the condenser works, but the fan for the radiator does not.
How do I test to see if I blew the radiator?
I was going to check the thermostat today, and it's not even in there! The top hose from radiator gets hot, but the antifreeze doesn't seem to be circulating...some antifreeze disappears... I think it's boiling away.
thx 4 ur help.

Sorry - I just learned about 'hijacking'... certainly didn't mean to do anything wrong.... I'll post my own thread once I get a few of these first things crossed off the list.
Thx again for all the info.

Yeah sorry, I was reading posts and I was wondering how we got to AC fans... Anyways I ripped the radiator a bit ago, still don't how I managed that, but anyways I had to get a replacement. I have already tried a new fan switch, fan, and thermostat. Haven't tried a relay but I have had electrical/relay/fuse in the past with this car. Ever heard of bad wiring being the culprit? I was wondering if the fan itself would have a reset switch on it..? Because that fan will not run in my car or my boyfriends 1996 honda hatch.
No reset switch in the fan. If ac calls one but not both, the fan itself is suspect, especially if it won't run in other cars. Fan relay should be same as horn. Swap and honk to test. Bad wiring is always possible after surgery. It only takes a tiny cut in the coating to allow it to short, but the chance is slim.
I don't have horn because aftermarket steering wheel. I am thinking it's the relay. Although I have already had a short under the dash with fuel pump wiring.

Hi, welcome! use a multimeter to test continuity of wiring from the fan to ground first. check the easy ones first. then work your way from the fan to the fan switch. find a wiring schematic of the fan circuit in a helms manual (download a .pdf online, they're everywhere)
