05 turn signal lever problem
hey dudes. question. my turn signal lever with headlight switch is acting up? basically driving home from work in the dark, used my turn signal to switch lanes and lost all my lights rear and headlights. i wiggled it a little and flipped it into high and lo beam to get them to come back on. anytime i hit a bump or bump the lever they all go out. i ordered a new lever from rock auto, it gets here tomorrow. just wondering how i replace it without having to buy a haines manual. can anybody help me out?
The instructions are part of this service bulletin. Disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 3 minutes.

....so wait you're telling me replacing the lever isnt going to do a thing. did you notice that bulletin only applies to 02-03 civics? i have an 05. i understand its still 7th gen but im completely new to this and live 4 states away from my parents and i dont have the tools to get this done, and i work second shift and need it done pretty quickly.
i called a dealership who said that this doesn't apply to my year. there are no current recalls for the 05 civic.

I know the service bulletin doesn't apply to your car; however, the instructions to change the lever is the same as your car. 01-05 Civics are relatively the same.
You asked for how to replace the lever, and that shows how to replace it...
You would do step # 1 through 4...

roger that, sorry man i got confused about the bulletin and the bullshit dealership trying to scare me into dropping 100 dollars for a scan. im like hello you ******* im not throwing codes, its obviously more mechanical than it is electrical. i mean its both but you get what im saying. thanks for the awesome input and super fast response.
can you explain why i disconnect the cable for atleast 3 minutes? i will follow your instructions im just curious about what happens and why

You want to disconnect the negative battery cable for at least three minutes before starting to work on it due to the airbag in the steering wheel area. That allows the capacitors in the SRS unit to discharge; so, there is less chance of the airbag accidentally blowing up on you.
