D16y7 into 91 civic si
I pulled a d16y7 and was wondering if I can put it into my 91 ef hatchback?!?
Questions.
1 what mounts/brackets to use
2 what wiring to use
ALSO,
Can I use a 96 civic engine AND dash harness in my 91 ef,and just use the 96 ek cluster and ecu.
Please help

Simple way is to use the engine only, reuse your existing manifolds and accessories where applicable. 3 out of the 4 mounts are on the transmission, the only one you need to change is the timing belt side mount. I believe you can bolt up the existing one with it's matching bracket from your original engine and use it as is but it'll be slightly tilted. As for wiring, I think the only difference will be the connector and location of the fan switch.
To use the dash harness and cluster you're on your own. I don't think many people have done this because it will complicate things unnecessarily.
Z6 block with it's original mount and bracket (should be close to the Y7 setup):

Z6 block with the older A6 mount and bracket, note the positional difference:

Fan switch on back of old engine (green two prong sensor):

Newer thermostat mounted fan switch (brown plug), you'll need to find a matching connector or rig up your own connection:

So i should use...
96 civic mounts, with 91 driverside and maby rear mount?
The car has no engine or dash harness right now.
Should I get a 96 dash and engine harness or a 91 dash and engine harness?from junkyard.
My main question is can I put obd2 harnesses into my 91 civic.
I don't plan on having heat or ac,just a speedo,lights/turns,and engine
PS I'm new on here, how do I post pictures on here

Let me re-clarify the mounts. 3 out of 4 mounts attach to the transmission so guess what? Unless you are trying to change your transmission, you will use 3 out of 4 original mounts no matter what engine goes in there. Now for the last mount which is the timing belt side, you will use the bracket and mount meant for your car. The easy way is to say that you will use all your original mounts meant for the car, the technicality is that the driver's side mount isn't a 100% perfect fit but it does fit. The alternative is to order a specific mount that I believe HASport sells for perfect fitment but that in itself seems to be a whole other issue (there's a thread on here if you wanna search for it).
If you got nothing and you're handy with your wiring skills, you can use an OBD1/2/etc harness where ever you like but it's not going to just plug into everything you want it to. If you can read a wiring diagram and solder/repin plugs then you should be good to go IF that's what you truly want to do.
If you want to keep it simple, get the wiring harness meant for your car/trim level. You can then run it as a 91 Si by using the corresponding Si distributor and ECU. Alternatively you can buy a jumper harness and run the correct OBD2 ECU and distributor meant for that engine.

Ok,so the mounts are clear as far as harnesses goes,I already have a 96 civic engine harness for it I just want to get the 96 dash harness, and re pin where I need to for tail lights, ignition plug, and if I got the time, the sun roof. All the 91 civic I has is the rear tail harness, that's all I have right now. This is what I'm looking at doing, making my 91 civic si,into a 96 civic.engine and harnesses.can it be done?has anyone saw this done?
No offense but don't waste your time unless you want a huge headache. Just get the cabin and engine harness either for your trim (DX, STD) and convert to MPFI or get the Si version of both. You'll have to use the Si injectors, or delete the resistor box and use the Y7's injectors. Whatever you do don't convert to OBD2, that'll cause way too many emissions issues. I'd go OBD1 and use something like a P06 ECU.

I found 2 cars at my local pick and pull junkyard. One is a 91 mpfi five speed. The other one is a 96 civic just like the car I pulled the d16y7 out of.with one should I dismantle?if I remove engine harness, and distibutor and etc and put it in my car what would I need?i want to try to use the 96 harness cuz it looks cheaper...
I'm working with low money, the 96 engine and dash harness would go in and i think I would just half to convert small things like tail light, headlight harnesses, and ignition and fuel pump.
I want this car to run and drive for least amount of cost as possible!just engine speedo turn signals headlinghts/tail,no heat no ac.im not concerned about emissions,it's a 91
So again cheap answers as possible.i NEED a daily again and I got a fresh y7 and a ef shell laying around.shell is gutted all it has is the rear tailight harness etc back there.no engine or dash harness at the moment.i do have a obd2 engine harness laying around too so help me get this thing going.
Send links if possible

heres the quick and dirty, I just did this swap in my 91 dx so I also had to convert to mpfi
Use the 91 Si engine mounts and brackets
Use the 91 Si intake and exhaust manifolds
Use the 91 Si engine and dash harness and ecu
Use the 91 Si distributor
It's not that hard

What about the breather box the engine comes with? Where does the hose go to?
