Default Expo 2003: The facts to date

I have been working with a couple of individuals to obtain a track. Neither have come through yet although some are working harder than others.

Tracks considered:
VIR (North or South)
Summit Point
Limerock
Beaver Run
Carolina Motorsports Park
Roebling Road
Road Atlanta
Mid Ohio

Tracks that wer ruled out due to availability or Cost:
VIR
Limerock (More a location thing)
Road Atlanta
Mid Ohio

Goals:
60 Cars for the event (50 R's and 10 open slots)
Cost at $300 or less for 2 days on track (Including insurance)
Weekend event (Where Friday or Monday may be considered part of the event)
2-3 big name race teams
Several sponsors
Possible magazines write ups

The Tracks are finalizing race schedules before they publishish recreational club weekends. Most of this happens by or around Nov 1 so we should know something in the next couple of weeks. I have not posted any info due to the fact at this point there is loittle info to post.

I have put this up so that people can rest assured I am doing what I can to put together a fun and successful Expo 2003. I am open to suggestions and if anyone has an in at one of the mentioned tracks please feel free to give me a shout.

If you have questions please feel free to contact me.

-Trey

Velocity will feature the event. I will put that in writing so you may show potential sponsors of the event. Hope that helps

Those tracks aren't readily accessible to westcoast people... are there any in the middle of the country?

Couple of questions... are complete novices welcome? I mean, me for example, I've never been on any kind of real race track, I'm just an enthusiast. Also, what other vehicle costs are concerned when you go to an event like this? I mean obviously an oil change before and after, but what else? I'm not too mechanically inclined and wouldn't want to drop a grand when I get back getting a new clutch and brakes or whatever else I would need from 2 days of racing. I really have no experience with all this stuff

You can definately count me in as long as it's within a day driving from Chicago, if not racing, definately there spectating.

io burn - Come to an event at gingerman before the Expo next year. (im about 30 minutes away from naperville) There's a handful of wisc and chicago guys including myself that will be at the events. I learned tons this year and I think you'd feel comfortable at the Expo after a day or two at gingerman.

Sean - I think the reason they are mostly Easy Coast was b/c the decision was made that the Expo was going to be East this year, and that it was midwest last year. Just my 2 cents.

How much does Gingerman cost? And do you need any kind of race license to go there? It's in South Haven, Michigan isn't it? That's about 6 hours away from us as I recall from the last time I drove up to Big Blue...?

Chris - I complete understand the issue. But, IMHO, to have a true 48 state ITR expo, I think it's better to hold it in the middle of the country, year after year. I just don't want it to split off to Eastcoast/Westcoast thing.

Sean - I agree with you, about the accesibility of the midwest. just stating facts.

Greg - Who wishes one of those tracks were closer, so he could go as well
What about Willow Springs, or Laguna Seca (sp)??

Then us easterners would drive 2/3 days. Logical comprimise is the midwest.

Oh well, we are jacking Trey's informational thread about the Expo. Sorry Trey. Your work for the expo is appreciated, even though every time we h-t'ers talk about it location is debated over and over....

Most of the events at Gingerman are around 150 and alot of track time and learning(well worth it IMHO). And its only 3 hours away...

Im pretty sure it was decided that, since the first two expos were on the west cost, then mid west, that the third would be on the east coast and any successive Expos would most likely be midwest from then on.

CGI Motorsports charges $150 for its events this year. They run only two run groups, so in one day you'll get WAY more track time than in two days at most other events.

And do you need any kind of race license to go there?
No.

It's in South Haven, Michigan isn't it?
Yes.

Only if you go really, really slow.

It's about 100 miles from downtown Chicago. Unless you're doing it in the middle of rush hour, you can count on ~1 hr 45 min (I generally do it in no more than 90 minutes). From Naperville you can figure 2.5 hours or so.

Oh, well I had no idea, it's just kind of a "Oh, I've passed South Haven before" kind of thing. That's definately something I'll have to look in to.

Sorry for the hijack, back to your regularly scheduled expo thread...

This is Wes' (White Dragon) suggestion from the other thread that I think is really doable:

Well, if things don't work out for an East Coast event, I would be more than happy to recommend the new track outside of Omaha, Nebraska. I am currently an instructor there, and know the Manager of the track very well, and am sure that we could work something out - the sooner we act the better.
Here is the website for the track information - it's called MAM or Mid-America Motorplex. We really should have a track by now, if we get into next year, things will not be promising to get a track at all, they are usually booked by then.

http://www.midamericamotorplex.com/

What do you guys think?
A relatively new facility, but without all the hassles that the big name tracks have.

My vote is for East Coast baby! West and Central have had their shot, now its time for the east. Of course, I am being selfish. Roebling Road is the closet of those to me, so I could even be more selfish and whine for it.

Actually I just hope to attend my first ever itrexpo in 2003.

to Trey for taking on the challenge, however it turns out.

Tracks considered:
VIR (North or South) N S
Summit Point
Carolina Motorsports Park
Roebling Road 'Never been'
sounds like a good list to me.

Kershaw S.C. will never knew what hit it.

What the hell's a "Roebling Beaver"? I'm getting confused, never heard of some of these tracks. I'd like to try VIR N or Summit. Keep up the good work Trey
