how good is plastidip?
I read some of the marketing, but I'm not convinced.
IV been thinking about using it for a few different things.
spraying an entire car with peeled clear coat. Had the car buffed, not satisfied. Thought about painting it, too much time wasted of my limited facilities. Will the plasti dip show the lines where the clear coat is missing?
spraying over bondo, and over different colored base coats. I wanna paint my car or maybe wrap it to resemble the flag of Palestine. But I need a door, and I doubt I'll find a pristine door right color so I'm gonna sand it and prime it, cuz I gotta install new QPs and a rocker panel. Instead of driving around with primered car like a loser, I was thinking about this removable paint stuff.
how does plasti dip look sprayed over bondo or primer? Does it still peal right off?

Check out DipYourCar on YouTube. That will answer most of your questions.
I think it would show the lines just like paint would. You need a well prepped surface for plastidip also. But instead of being sanded it just needs to be smooth and clean.
They use base coat (primer-esq) under their cover coats of plastidip. So if you just top coat, I'm sure you could see slight color variations.
As for it being a waste of your limited facilities, probably. Paint is on par (if you are a DIYer) with plastidip. It's not that much of a difference. Plastidip also, this is advertised, only lasts 3-5 years. Just like a traditional vinyl wrap (iirc). Not saying it can't last longer or it won't, but don't expect miracles.
Plastidip and similar products peel off of just about everything.

So its really no better than a wrap to me then. I might just paint the one car since its my girlie's and I need to fix the **** out of the windshield lip as it is, I got all the tools if I can find em in the mess they're buried in, cept after watching a car get sand blasted damn would I rather do that then waste time and electricity with a roloc wheel, but shes on a budget, part time jobs suck lol. I mostly wanna fix the windshield and leave the car looking not completely retarded.
plus she's gonna get pissy if I over spray all over her garage, plus I'm a shitty painter lol..

You can overspray with PlastiDip too. I'm confused on your goal. You should set a concrete budget, plan, and work from there.
1. I wanna spend $200-400 on product.
2. I am willing to spend 100 hours on the project
3. What do you suggest?
Budget 2-stage paint with a lot of prep in the driveway.
or
1. I want to spend relatively nothing
2. I want to spend no time.
3. What do you suggest?
Rattle can that ****.
Even the plastidip in a can is expensive, $6+ at Walmart. I think vinyl wraps are pricey too. I've seen them in the $2,000 range. I'd say you are better off doing a lot of prep work yourself and finding a shop who will spray some fairly cheap paint.
If you are no good at this, I'd leave it alone. No sense in wasting money if it won't look better.

I've been wondering about Plasti Dip also. I saw those dipyourcar on youtube. It seems interesting.
I'm not talking about doing it on my prestine uber mint civic :p That car is fine, I think.
I'm interested in plastidipping my old beat up 15 yr old CR-V. Its not in horrible condition, but its certainly lost any of its original black glass shine it once had. Its mostly just a beater but I still drive it pretty often as my civic sits in the garage unless its perfect skies.
Repainting sound expensive especially for a beater. Vinyl wrap sounds expensive also for the CR-V even for a simple color like matte black.
Yes I'm thinking about just plasti dipping it in Matte Black. I know, not original, matte black. I don't care so much as the car now doesn't look so great anymore. Besides, I don't think I'll run in many 1st gen matte black CR-V's anyway.
Painting, a good paint job I think I've seen range from $4000 on up
Vinyl wrapping I've seen range for my CRV for around $2000-$4000
Plasi dipping I think you're supposed to do it yourself, invest in some paint gun at lowes, buy a few gallons. Whole thing I've been reading should run about $250-$400
not sure how much local places charge to do it. I don't really have a garage I can do it in. So I might have to check out a local shop. If a local shop can do it for say $500, I might just let them do it instead of me finding a place I can do it.

Any particular application gun do you recommend? Brands you've had success with?
I've only used the spray cans for plastidip. I have a friend that is in love with the stuff and he uses rattle cans on everything. They sell electric sprayers much like the stuff you see people use to paint houses and such. I only have used plastidip for wheels since I wanted to retain the OE finish if I had to sell them.
