Default 92 accord ex transmission stuck in 4th no P or R

ok, transmission stuck in 4th gear, or Limp mode. no park, no reverse. !

no codes when I jump the jumper on pass side under kick panel.

upon key engage, I get the lights on P and D4, which do not blink and D4 goes away on start up.

I've had the tcu redone with new caps and resistors, changed out the shift and trans control solenoids, tho the ones in there seemed ok when I checked em, changed em anyway, changed trans fluid.

checked and cleaned speed sensor... all relevant connections

going by this

http://techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

and this

http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/jo...20305_code.pdf

and perusing thru all known forums

a lot of the same problems and few fixes, the ones that have worked I've tried to no avail.

pulling hair out !

a=hahahaa, any help would be greatly appreciated.

TCU is 28100 PXO732, is this the correct one for this model? I've heard otherwise...

Just so I understand this correctly.

You start the car (shifter in P) and it will start and the car will drive off while the shifter is still in P. No matter what you do with the shifter the car drives forward when the engine is running.

correct...

so what I've done now is put the car on jacks, to see if I'm getting any shifting, and it seems to shift if I manually put the car from D1 to D2 to D3, seems to shift sort of normally, but when I put it into D4 it seems to shift up and down erratically...

still no reverse or park. from what I'm seeing it seems it would be the lock out and shift solenoids, pulled and cleaned em both several times. checked em with a jump wire to battery and they are clicking an all...

I guess I need to check with Ohmmeter, don't have one... on the gadget list.

whata ya think?

thanks

Sounds like the range selector could be misaligned and not fully setting correctly.

range selector, could you point me to a link of the location and how to set it?

I've already done a lot of research, but not seeing anything about the range selector...

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/1992-accord-lx-trans-issue-d4-light-stays-solid-wont-shift-into-4th-2630981/

and

http://techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

I got a reman TCU coming, cheap enough, see what happens, going to the junk yard for some more solenoids. and autozone for an Ohmmeter.

Check for damage to the shifter, shifter cable, and shifter linkage.

Just because your shifter is in P>D1 does not mean the trans is actually in the correct gear.

When or why did this start happening?
Did you purchase the car this way, or did it 'just happen'?

no obvious damage to shifter or linkage... 1st thing I checked, since it seemed like the linkage was binding, but once into it, finding all this electronic stuff has got me grinding my teeth at night.
started happening a while ago, not 100% sure, it's my kids car, and they don't tell my s**t til the thing totally craps out and I'm left with deciphering whats going on...

I'll throw another couple hundred bux and a few daze into this thing, then it's off to the junk yard and they can take the bus. maybe teach em a lesson.

Pull the cable completely out and verify that it is broken.

If your kid high centered it somewhere it may have damaged the transmission linkage.

Also someone on here recently stated when they ordered a new cable they received the wrong one. Make sure to bring your old shifter cable assembly(cable) to the dealer when you pickup your new one to verify it is the correct unit. 94-97 cables look like 90-93 with a slight difference in the shifter side.

54315-SM4-505 is the Honda part number ~ $170
Rock Auto has aftermarket cables for ~$70(don't forget to find a discount code for 5% off)

But make sure it is the cable before ordering. The linkage on the trans side is well protected, but if the bolt has sheared (#12) then it can cause for the shifter/cable to not properly actuate the gear selector on the trans.

everything looks intact in there on the tranny end, how the heck do you get that clip off the end{2 and 14}...? does that all come apart when you remove the cotter pin?

I ordered the cable, don't want to totally take it apart til I get it here and look at it.

that number you gave me is for a 93 coupe tho, but I think I got the right one, we'll see in a few daze... thanks Mike, why are you so mad... workin on honda's? haaa hahaa. Joking

#1 has to be removed via unlocking #12 from #14 which has tabs keeping it from rotating. Then with #1 removed(still attached to #10 shift cable) you can remove the shift cable from #1.

Of course you will have to remove #4 first. IIRC #16 is a cotter pin holding #2 to #1 encapsulating #10 eyelet.

ok so #1 comes off all together after loosening #12 from #14, remove it from that shaft? I see the little bent tab on the #12 bolt...

and #3 is a little bushing I guess?

I got a Haynes manual today, so that should help, but not much detail on how it all comes apart in that thing.

Yup. The metal tabs just need to be pried back, if you are careful enough you will be able to reuse that locking device.

Yup. Prevents the cable eyelet from seizing on the linkage.

Not sure how much better the Haynes is over the Chiltons.
Haynes is better in that it is very model specific, whereas the Chiltons is a bit more generic.

If you plan on doing consistent indepth work on your car, google a Honda accord manual. Several links to Honda Accord service manual pdfs are online.
More indepth for AT servicing and general diagnostics over the Haynes/Chiltons manuals.

ok so once I get that all off there, since the tranny seems to be in a drive gear, do I need to reposition that #1 on the shaft to get into park? or mark it, replace in same position and manipulate back into park with shifter and adjust from the shifter end?
