Default Exhaust Manifold Removal?

Im doing the head gasket on my 90 CRX DX and have everything off except timing belt and exhaust pipe. Question: Is it better to disconnect at the front of the cat or downpipe in order to pull the manifold away from the head? Also what to do with the belt to keep it in place when i take it off the cam pulley? Want to try and finish getting this apart tonight. Thanks

Cat. Then you pull it forward and it falls right off.

It will just stay there if you have a timing belt cover.

It's a good idea to mark a tooth on the belt, and then the teeth on the cam gear either side of the marked belt tooth so you know the belt is going on in the same position as it was taken off.

Obviously still double check your timing marks line up though.
