Default 2004 Civic A/C Not Working

I have an '04 Civic 1.6 SE which I've taken to the shop as the A/C isn't working. They say the compressor needs replacing and charging me £800. I've checked the fuse and relay and both seem fine.

When I turn the A/C button on the dash on, it lights up but the fans don't move under the hood.

Is there anything I can do other than pay the shop to replace the compressor?

Thanks

Hi. The first part to go in a compressor is the magnetic clutch. There is usually a replacement kit for that, but depending on the condition of the compressor, it may or may not last long, esprecially if the compressor's been leaking oil.
