Default School me on 2012+ Civic Si and/or fg2-fa5

Need a new(er) to me Honda DD. Current is a 95 vtec prelude. I was looking at Fits but can't resist the Si/vtec. The 06-11 I prefer for many reasons but this new gen has grown on me. The 2012's have dropped enough to shrink the gap between the 09-11 value...plus newer stiffer chassis. There's 09s 50xxx kms selling for $17k and 2012s with 35xxxx kms for 20k (Canada prices btw).

From discussions I got this info for 2012:

Lower 7k redline k24 that only has vtec on intake cam? The plus side is torque peaks lower like at 4k. 201hp/170lb-ft...on paper it sounds better than the previous gen. Integrated header (wtf who came up with this)? So I take it these aren't very tuner friendly? The thing that attracts me to fg2/fa5 is how you can get 220whp/165wtq and mid 13 second 1/4 mile while staying NA "relatively easy".

So go for 06-11, or try a '12 and negotiate the price even lower, or splurge and try a early mid model refresh '13/'14?

The '15s are interdasting...but the OE rims on them are batchit nasty. I can't find much info on these other than it now has 205hp/174lb-tq and a bunch of better cars in its segment are out or about to come out.

I've seen a surprisingly large amount of '12+ Si's around lately. Someone must like them!

The rear ends are starting to grow on me. I thought they were ugly as sin when I first saw them.

I've been looking at '13 Si sedans lately as a successor to my Accord after I graduate

Debating if I want to hold off until the '14 Si models start going down in price (more gadgets, CarPlay, etc.) or if they ever bring the 2.0 DI turbo VTEC motors stateside

Doesn't seem to have negative impacts on handling...I've driven a couple RSX, been in an EP3 SiR, and extensively driven an 08 Civic EX sedan and they all feel far more solid than any 90's Honda (probably structural strength, chassis rigidity/stiffness) of course I've never driven a near new 90's Honda either so I can't compare lightly used VS lightly used.

On the road I probably won't ever notice any drawbacks the suspension set up has on these cars. I do love DWB's but what can you do.

Yeah one thing holding me back from current gen is the potential of a turbo Civic Si coming here (with all the emissions crap and even M3 of all cars going boost I can't see the next Si not being boosted).

I'll get a fg2/fa5 to play with/dd in the mean time. Down the road get into a new turbo Si (wishful thinking) heck they should bring us back the hatchback while they're at it. We've been missing the ole Civic hatch. Huge market for them now, they should take notes from Mazda or Ford.

Been looking at the 2014's as well. But I only like them with the optional HFP wheels.

Love my 07 Si. The perfect daily, for me. Great level of fun/excitement while still being economical and usable. I couldn't deal with the K24 in the '12+ Si not having the legit VTEC. To me, an Si needs the audible VTEC crossover and 8,000 RPM red line. Unless they give us a turbo with the next gen in that case, it's trade in time when that arrives.

Ahahahahahahaha. Spending money to still not be fast.

06-11 > 12-15

12-15 has a marginally higher amount of torque, though lower redline, worse gear ratios, and is actually slower in the 1/4 mile. Not to mention, you lose that classic high-revving Honda squeal, and sacrifice it for a more throaty, though more generic engine noise. While the 12-15 has a nicer dashboard setup, it has worse seats.

The thing that attracts me to fg2/fa5 is how you can get 220whp/165wtq and mid 13 second 1/4 mile while staying NA "relatively easy".
Average driver will pull low 15s stock. Good driver can manage high 14s, stock. I/H/E/tune, you're looking at about 220. Full NA build, you can break 300whp. The k20z3 can handle up to about ~400whp on stock internals. I believe some have approached 600whp range with internal mods and forced induction.

And just for fun...despite the tacky interior aesthetic mods, this would be a fun car to drive. 2:14 for a pull. A car with this setup could easily run 10s in the 1/4.

x2 on this

I actually don't mind the stock wheels on the '13 models for some reason but the person that approved the wheels for the '14 models needs to be dragged out back and shot

If I do purchase a '14 in the future the stockers will be replaced with Accord Sport wheels or the HFP wheels as soon as I can

Haha I like the sedan WAY more than the coupe.

But I also want an E90, not an E92. So maybe I'm just old.

I like the '09-'11 Si wheels better than '13+. I don't like the silver/black painted, looks tacky to me.

No, fat tires and good HP explain why that car was the fastest Type R.

Suspension certainly wasn't one of them.
