00 Civic EX - Finding the right Auto Trans?
Im new to this website and to Hondas. I started a thread a few day ago asking why the replacement transmission I installed on my girlfriends civic isn't working. Well with yall's help I came to the conclusion that it was the wrong tranny. To keep this from happening again im wondering if there is any stamped codes or numbers I can match to know it will work in my car. The civic is a 2000 EX d16y8. Thanks!
Bottom line --> You must use a 96-00 Civic EX auto transmission.

Would the transmission serial number reveal whether it's a DX or EX? If a transmission dealer doesn't bother to ask you for your VIN then they don't know what they're giving you?
Sorry guys..I feel like im getting annoying but ive already been screwed on this once and want to make sure I get it right this time. I now know from this website that it must be from a 1996-2000 ex...my question is what if the tranny is just sitting there when I go to buy it. I don't wanna take someone's word for it again, so should the stamping on my tranny be exactly the same as the one im buying or what can I compare or check to see if the guy is telling the truth. Also been looking at the JDM option...are they called something else when you go that route because ive looked at many websites and mainly they describe them with a 4-5 letter/number code, not a year and model
