1998 CRV In SC Begs To Be Lifted
Hello, I am new here and this is my first post, so I have not had the opportunity to look at the dedicated threads yet. I am sure I’ll be posting these questions in another area. I look forward to learning from your experience. Thank you!
I own a red 1998 4WD CRV-EX with an automatic transmission that I purchased new two years after I graduated from college. I am now 40 and guess what I still drive every day. You guessed it. I have 216,000 on it now without ever having any major problems with the engine or transmission. I have been vigilant on preventative maintenance (oil changes every 3-4 thousand miles, servicing transmission, timing belts, fuel filters, water pumps, thermostats, plugs, wires, etc.). Of course there have been repairs over the course of the years, but nothing extremely major. The original 215-70-15 BFG tires lasted approximately 80,000 miles. Believe it or not, the remote I use every day (it came with 2) still has the original battery in it.
Since I am the only one who rides in it 95% of the time, the interior looks brand new. I have begun to remove and paint the faded gray bumper covers and moulding black. I even painted the faded center caps on the factory alloy wheels black with a red H logo. The roof rack and windshield wiper arms are next on my list. I hope to have some pictures once I have finished everything.
I am running 225-75-15 Kuhmo Road Venture AT tires because I wanted a bigger and more aggressive tire to fill space in the wheel well. The only problem I ran into was the back tires slightly rubbing on the thin metal "fin" (I don't know the technical name) in the wheel well. A hammer took care of that. I noticed a slight decrease in power on take off and hills, but have had no problems with the transmission or any noticeable change in gas mileage.
I am now interested in lifting my CRV after seeing pictures on the web that originated from Honda-Tech.com. From the research I've done, Old Man Emu seems to be the only lift made for the CRV with perhaps a 2-2 1/2 inch result. I need information and guidance on the process, any brand names, and if any major modifications are necessary (transmission concerns, gearing changes, shocks, etc.). I would like to go to a 235-75-15 if possible.
