Default 89 Civic Hatch STD Build (from S2000 to EF Hatch)

I picked this up in Bloomington, IN. I like the EF platform being boxy. I love old school. Made me buy this hatch because I miss my wagon but don't want that to do a swap on it, I prefer the hatch platform if I really wanted to do a swap. So after a year of deciding, to keep or not to keep the S2000, I decided to just get a hatch. It's 1989 Civic Standard with manual 4 speed. Canadian, 213k miles. Interior is really messed up and plastics are faded, was a California car its whole life until owner brought it to Indiana. Has quarter panel rust on the passenger side(I can say this car is clean, body is straight only few dents, if you live in the MIDWEST majority of Civics has rusted its rockers/quaters), Crack on the windshield, smokes and burns oil (blue)(new OE cylinder head though), still managed to drive it home safely with the help of 2 bottles of Rislone Ring Seal Smoke Repair . It's 244 miles drive to Chicago. Picked it up real cheap. Only thing is paint is faded everywhere.

My plans are to track the car, strip interior out, non oe paint, caged it, B18 swap(ITR), and many more.

Hey guys, I picked up a donor car, it's pretty much complete with B16A on it and built cable tranny, very nice suspension, a rear disc conversion and runs perfect! Just ignore the body kits lol. Will tell each detail along with every picture I will upload. Previous owner only used it on AutoX for about 1 season and lost interest on it, parked it for couple of years then decided to sell it early this year. I actually seen this on Craigslist the first time he posted it(around March). Until last Friday, I picked it up. I was actually thinking on buying this CRX(for parts) if I find a clean EF Hatch shell(Midwest), and it really happened. I was so lucky the previous owner didn't sold it too quickly because then I will have the chance to buy it.
Bought it really cheap considering all the "Good Stuff" he put on it.

Now onto the pictures!

Damn. That's a messed up looking engine bay. Must have sat for awhile. Good luck with the Y1...

Yeah dude can't wait to get this swap installed. Going to do some cleaning and maintenance on it while it's out. Very lucky I found this donor car, I'm on a tight budget so this is really a good deal for me.

IKR, it sat for 2 years. But the good thing about this engine is it doesn't smoke and only has minor engine oil leak from the vtec solenoid gasket. I'm happy with the tranny because the previous owner fully rebuilt it and put good stuff there already, don't have to do anything on it anymore. That's is a big plus for me especially I'm going to track this car.

Also, I checked the spark plug last week to see how well the engine's condition. I will also going to do compression test sometime this week. BTW I drove the donor car when I picked it up. It sat for 2 years but when we started it it's just one click and it runs pretty good, shifts perfect! I'm so in love with this tranny, very responsive and quick.

The Y1 is one of the few small spline B-series transmissions, right? That's what I was pointing at. I think the parts are pretty rare. Does it have factory LSD?

I think you've missed the parts I wrote at the top of the every picture of the donor car I uploaded. Details are there along with the pics. No, it has MFACTORY HELICAL LSD.

I did miss the red text. I scrolled right over it.

I thought I recalled some weird differences amongst the Y1 transmissions. But if the trans is already built, you're good to go.

I still see a couple people rocking body kits and never getting the flack I got. I will say, theirs do look better than mine. Anyway, glad to hear people are stepping down from the top shelf Honda world into this neck of the woods.

In for some real updates!

That shroud makes me proud.

I'm going to make one from some spare aluminum one of these days. I dislike the big bulky plastic thing I have.

Looking forward to the rest of this build. I got a 91 lx sedan I'm swapping a b18 and brakes from a 91 integra donor. So nice knowing how the engine runs before starting on a project rather than buying just a used engine and trans.
