Default Stay small or go big?

I recently got a 89 crx, it was pretty clean other than some ghetto wiring on the engine harness and other small things. Atm it has a b15b2 block with a z6 head OBD1 conversion, i was trying to get a write up on what i would need to do to get my goal but people just keep suggesting i put a b16 or b18 in it then build it off of that but i kinda like the mini me swap. I was wondering if i should swap the engine or keep what it has as a base. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You want to know if you should keep what you have or do a B swap?
You sound happy with what you have so ....
What are your goals?

That d15b2 block will NOT hold 300whp. You would be stressing it at 200whp...

Is the z6 head good for 300hp? I also have a friend with a z6 block, should i get that or no?

A complete z6 can put down good power, but you will need upgrade pods and pistons to achieve any sort of reliability.
Some head work and a nice turbo manifold will make it easier to get up to your 300 goal.
Around 220 is realistic if it is left completely stock.

What fuel are you planning on running?

Im going to buy a skunk2 mani soon if thats good for a turbo, and i was thinking 89 or 91 octane. I actually wasn't sure what fuel i should run.

If you are dead set on 300whp, then swap to a B series.

For a 300whp D16 you will need rods and pistons, at a minimum.

even 220bhp is a bit optimistic for a stock d bottom end imho..

a couple of my friends used to run 220bhp d's daily however i'd rather aim for the 200 mark to remain in the safe zone.

if you want 300bhp, a minime will get there but as mentioned it's quite a lot of work compared to a b-swap

You can either source a Z6/A6 block and upgrade the rods/pistons, then swap blocks. Or you can swap motors completely. It is up to you. Cost? Could be about the same either way. Turbo kit will be pretty irrelevant since the power goal is still the same and a lot of the stuff works on either motor.

Internals:

Plus the cost of a block. Can be had pretty cheap from a JY or a failed build.

As for the LS or B16, you're going to need a motor, trans, axles, mounts, shift linkage, and some little things.

I'd imagine the D16 build being cheaper. You can go with Vitara pistons and save yourself $300 or so too.
