Default Parking gear issue (92 accord lx)

I need ideas on what this issue could be.
I recently replaced the shifter cable because of the difficulties getting into and out of park. The old cable was definitely bound up.

The new cable is an ATP Y-758 which is suppose to be just fine for this car. Compared to the old cable, it appears visibly the same.

After getting the new cable on, the car still can not be thrown into park.
With assistance, I could see the cable move at the tranny end but it would not move the tranny cylinder post into park. I can manually turn the post into park at the tranny end....so it can be done.

Other than a faulty new cable...any ideas.

Is the cable properly adjusted?
Have you verified the linkage on the trans has not moved or bent?
Have you verified the linkage on the shifter han not moved or bent?

If the old cable was seizing up, the linkage on the shifter/transmission may have been bent/damaged and no longer allows the correct amount of throw needed to slide the cable.

Mad Mike,
I appreciate your reply.

The cable is properly adjusted.

I'm confused with your questions on if the linkage on the trans/shifter has not moved or bent.

The new cable is the linkage between the trans and the shifter.
Grant you there is a metal control lever on the tran side that the new cable is attached to....but absolutely none of the components from the tran side up to the shifter is bent.

Any other ideas?

If the cable is correctly adjusted, but the linkage at the trans, or at the shifter has been damaged(bent) from the old cable seizing up, it may not allow for the full throw of the cable to place the trans back into park.

Mike,
I appreciate your ideas.

Just as a follow up.....
I took a chance in ordering a used OEM shift cable from ebay.

When I compared the ebay shift cable to my new ATP Y-758 shift cable, the OEM shift cable was visibly longer by almost an inch when each were fully extended.

I have since installed the ebay OEM shift cable and all gears are positioned and working as they should.

I know that other "do-it-yourselfers" have used the ATP Y-758 as a replacement cable....so I'm inclined to say that I had a manufacturing defect with mine.

again....your time and attention was appreciated.
