OK so the other day my 95 prelude si with a h22a stalled when coming to a stop at a light. It happened when I pushed the clutch in and started breaking The rpms dropped and the car died. Since then it happens every time I come to a stop.

What I have tried so far new fuel filter and main relay I have cleaned the fuel injectors, iacv and throttle body.
I tested my tps and found out it was only getting 1 volt instead of 5 so I ran a new wire and now it gets 5v but it still stalls.
Could the tps sensor be bad even if it's getting the correct voltage? What else could cause this? Any help is appreciated

 

Could be your oxygen sensor.

 

check distributor and ignition coil

 

I checked the igniter and coil and am getting good spark consistently. As for the o2 sensor I was following one of the wires because it was separate from the harness and it was a dead end. P.o did all his own wiring. So does anyone have a wiring diagram of where the o2 sensor wires are supposed to go?

 

Replaced the o2 sensor and ran new wires. Problem still here

 

Checked the tps and map sensor. They are getting the correct voltage. Map sensor changes voltage with vacuum.
Could either sensor be broken even though the voltages are correct

 

Check that your brake lights work. The brake switch is an input for idle operation.

The TPS has a range that it sends to the ecu, try checking it following the guide for calibrating a new TPS, and make sure it reads the right range, without skips. MAP is a bit tougher unfortunately.

Have you checked to make sure the timing belt is in good shape, and the timing on that side is correct?

 

I will check the tps asap. I checked the map and it is perfectly within spec. Could a bad timing belt make me stall when pushing the brake?

 

Just checked the tps sensor and there is no dead spots

 

I hate to dig up an older thread, but did you ever figure this out? I picked up a 94 yesterday and it started doing this on the way home. Starts right back up, but it's annoying.

 

Any dust in the dizzy cap ? .. take off the valve cover, make sure your cams are pointing up when at TDC ... this is the easiest 2 things to check, otherwise go through alll the above

 

Hook up a fuel pressure tester and lay the hood on it so the gauge faces you in the windshield. Drive around and see what fuel pressure looks like when you stop and the car dies.

 

I don't think it's a lack of fuel. I got to drive it more today. It idles quite low and rough. It doesn't stall every time I let off the gas after cruising for a while, but it will idle low enough mostly to just cut out. I did finally get to lay into today (it's not raining and I actually have it tagged now, lol) and I could SMELL the unburned fuel coming from the exhaust with the windows down and sunroof open. It also seems to lose it's ***** after 5k RPM, lol!

Could be running rich? I'll be giving it a tune up and look at the idle...possibly the IACV and see what I find.

Another weird find, off subject....my engine (especially the head) and trans look super clean for having 224k miles on the car. Everything else, including the clutch slave is super brown and rusty. The guy I got bought the car from, got it from his grandfather. They said the engine and trans were never replaced, but it drives like a car that has 100k miles on it.....one that needs a tune up. Plus, the trans has a sticker that says P2U5. Pretty sure that's not the original trans. Thought the 94 Prelude Si came with a M2S4?

 

Check for an exhaust leak by seafoaming. Look for white smoke leaking anywhere from the ex manifold to the oxygen sensor.

 

Ok, so I found this out......I didn't realize the non-vtec h23a1 was supposed to have premium fuel and the guy that owned it before didn't know this either. So, with a 3/4 tank of regular gas, I put a whole bottle of STP octane booster (enough to treat 25 gallons) to bring the octane up. After driving for half hour, it stopped stalling on me. It almost did once, instead of dropping strait to 0, it fought back and revved up a little and idled. After that, it hasn't stalled since. I know it's an amateur thing to do, that maybe some of us do when we give a car a tune up, but I swear that octane booster helped. Maybe the injectors were clogged? Not sure, but a few days later, I got the wheels aligned, oil changed and gave it a tune up. Runs like a champ!

 

Since you have a knock sensor, using regular gas wouldnt cause your car to have any issues. Its more likely that you got bad gas than the regular gas giving u issues.
