2003 Civic TDC issue when replacing timing belt
Hi all - So I'm replacing the timing belt on my '03 for the first time (I just got the car recently), and just as I've got the old belt off and am about to install the new one I see the "UP" mark on the camshaft sprocket - at the bottom.. I thought I had located TDC when I had my compression gauge in the #1 spark plug hole - furthest on left - as I'm used to my Corolla. Actually #1 on a Civic is closest to the drive-belts, or on the right.. My question is, where to from here? Can I just find TDC on the 'real' #1 cylinder and then position my camshaft sprocket in correct alignment, or am I actually just totally screwed?? Any info would be a help! Thanks.
ur probaly at BDC. for true TDC ur dizzy rotor should point at the #1 cylinder. sorry but u gotta pay more attention. might have to go to professionals to avoid messing anything up but u already have the parts
Actually it went back together just fine - Noting got moved when I had the belt off, so it was the same as if it had been where I though it was to start with. Not sure why the need to find TDC when doing the belt, except maybe just as a reference if things do get moved. Anyway, it's back running like a top. Next, the clutch...
