Default Slowing down LED blinking

Okay, so when you put LEDs in your front turn signals(1157) slot they blink much faster. I saw in a post that you can wire a resistor in w/the LED to slow it down or something like that....anyone know how to do this? And can anyone tell me how much faster the blinker is? Is it annoyingly something like 3x as fast or is it just a little faster and you can get used to it/bear with it? Thanks all.
