Default Idea to make side marker stay on and blink

i just thought of an ideal about my side markers i have a 98 ek9 look alike... and since i am electronics major... i realized that if i used a resistor in series with the side marker bulb and then place the turn signal wire in between the resister and the bulb.. i could get the bulb to stay on and blink at the same time... but there is a problem. when u place any resistance between the bulb and the power source the bulb will be dimmer. so im try it first and will see what happens.

you may want to review electronics a wee bit more before tackling this...

Wait, is there a separate power source besides the turn signal wire?

Draw a schematic in MS paint (or PSpice if you have it) and post up what you're planning on doing.

well i think i know what im talking about when it comes to electronics... yes there is more then one power wire. one for turn signal and one for constant 12. lets just say this when you wire up a side marker there are two options right. 1) turn on when you hit the turn signal but side marker is off when parking lights are on. 2) to stay on when parking lights are on but alternates when you hit the turn signal. which wires do you use? constant 12 and signal from turn signal thats how you get the alternation between the side marker and corner light. the two power (constant 12 and pulsing 12 from the turn signal) cancel each other out.

i got all the things i need to do this so let me try it and see what happens. dont worry thats why there are fuses... if something happens they are cheap... hahahaha

if you can find one small enough it'd easier to just run a dual filament bulb

What if you used a delay relay?

mmm.... well you can use a relay but it makes things harder to deal with... ill just do it and ill post it up on youtube or something to see if you guys like it... and yes you can use a dual filament bulb but you would have mod the bulb connector which is made only made for two wires.

Brush up on your electronics a bit and use a relay and two diodes.

none of this technical stuff is needed! just wire them into the marker/turn signal in the headlight and hook one wire to the marker circuit and one to the turn signal circuit...the turn signal voltage overrides the marker voltage thus allows the marker to stay lit and will blink when the turn signal is applied

save your self time, trust me it works i'm a mechanic and did the complete installation of the factory sidemarkers on my 2000 civic

Yes it does lol I started reading about using diodes and I was like WTF these are only lights....its cake doing it my way and it DOES work

I'm with this guy. I had mine wired like that years ago. Work just fine.

i'm not following. as far as i know the marker light and turn signal both receive the same amount of voltage. i don't understand how wiring both running light power and blinking power to the single filament bulb is going to do anything at all. the running light voltage would have to be lower and i don't believe there's anything in the car that intentionally steps down the voltage for the running lights.

I never did a voltage test to see the difference but I'm telling you that it works this way perfectly.....do a search and you'll see other people doing this as well

I hope I don't have to take a video to prove this to anyone..it works fine or I wouldn't have posted this procedure

i think i'm misunderstanding here. i thought you were trying to make the light be lit with the parking lights on, and then blink brighter when the turn signal is applied. it occurs to me now that you simply mean that it will be lit and then turn on and off fully when the turn signal is on. i see what you guys are tryin to do now lol. in my mind i was thinking of how i did my marker lights on the hatch and converted them to dual filament bulbs so that they could be on and blink brighter when the turn signal was applied. probably what made me read into what you were trying to do a little differently lol.

^^^ that's exactly my point I'm just not good at simplfying the procedure but that's what I was trying to get across
