Default K vs J swap in an EF

I'm thinking about doing something with a lot more displacement.

J:
Pro - cheap and plentiful
Con - lots of weight up front, hood clearance issues, wiring? Ems?

K:
Pro - weighs about the same as a bswap.
Con - can still be pricey, kpro is $$$

If I did J, I'd want the TL-S with 6sp LSD.

If I did K, I'd want a 2.4L.

Somebody talk me out of this...!

For driving on the street? Or a track car?

A J swap would be unique and have plenty of torque.
Both will have clearance issues and will be about the same amount of work to install... basally a PITA. Not too crazy, but it is pretty involved. Aftermarket support for the K is much better, also tuning the K will be easier.

If money is an issue consider going H2B in an EF. It is pretty straightforward swap, will perform about as good as the K (maybe even better depending on your set-up) and will likely save you a couple grand. Trust me on that.

If you are set on a K v J, then I vote for the K just because of the support around that platform.. but either set-up will be very fun in the EF.

This would mainly be a street car.

I already have an autox car, and if I were building another one then the k would be the answer.

Is anyone on here running a Jswap in their EF, or is hasport the only ones so far?

You're not exactly a new comer, so I'm sure you've done some debating on this.

I'd go J-series personally. Sure there is a ton of support for the K-series, but a V6 isn't something you see everyday. We've all seen the RWD, mid engine, J-swaps. Those are my favorites. If you want to stay with FWD, go for some sort of hood cowl to cover up the J-series. I've been advocating the cut hood with a cowl for a long time. I don't think anyone has taken my idea/advice though.

As for engine weight, 130 lb difference is all.

It's like your skinny friend sitting on the bumper. I think it's negligible personally (as far as deciding on a swap that is). You should be able to counteract the weight through springs/anti-sway bars.

As for tuning either platform, I'd say it should be the same. Kpro vs. Megasquirt (one choice I've seen work well). Or leave it be with the factory ECU.

Put a K24A2 in the front, and a J32 in the back. Win.

I don't think they are the only ones.

Lol at the twin drive idea of F22.

I meant more along the lines of regular guys like you or me wrt swap.

I like how the j looks in that last blue car!

I've seen the later TL-S swap with LSD 6sp go for $1500...
The gears in my head are turning.

Honestly, do you have the fab skill? It takes a bit of work. I'd say it's on the same level as the K-swap though. I'd still go J-series. Just get some stiffer springs up front.

I just found the hasport instructions.

http://hasport.com/store/tech/efj1.pdf

They honestly don't look too bad - maybe a little worse than a kswap.

I guess I'm wondering what the corner weights will be like with a Jswap.

I'm sure it would be fun - even a stock motor NA.

If you do it, please post a build thread. I'd love to see how she turns out!

Like I said, 130 lb difference. I can't imagine that would change it all that much. Relocated the battery to offset some weight possibly? It's going to be a 'nose heavy' car for sure. But for DD and straight lines, it won't really matter.

What are the EMS options for a J series engine?

All I could find were standalone options or stock ECU.
