Stepdaughter came home from work tonight (98 civic dx) & her engine was surging. As if someone was giving it gas & letting off repeatedly. I had her shut it off & restart with no throttle at all. Still surging. Not revving high, but not idling normally. Anyone have experience dealing with this?

 

check for vacuum leaks. spray carb cleaner near vac lines and connections, check for a change in idle. if you don't find any, remove and clean your idle air control valve.
