A quick question, one that I have been wondering about since I been changing out fluids on my cars, and one that I actually heard discussed on another auto forum (not Honda specific but for all cars
The idea that MMO, or Marvel Mystery Oil, is similar in characteristics (color? viscosity? Not sure about chemical composition) to transmission fluid, and is a "slow, gentle cleaner." Good at cleaning up valves and stuff, on engines.
So....
IF you were changing out transmission fluid, (as I did. And all was smooth...) I replaced it woth 100% Honda DW-1 (meaning I took out three quarts old fluid, and put in the three quarts new DW-1.. as to what I mean by 100%. I didn't use the drain plug.. no tools, no ramp, thanks. I siphoned... got out 3 quarts..) -- IF the fluid was to be changed again, what would putting SOME (maybe a quart) of MMO in the fill do?
Again: I HAVE NOT DONE THIS.. Just wanted to ask the Honda community if this had benefit, or, if this is just foolishness.
Open question..
There is no MMO in my transmission..
Once again: THERE IS NO MMO IN MY TRANSMISSION..

Thank you! Let's discuss.

How about do some research?

You aren't the first to ask this question and we don't do chats or science experiments here. If you want to know so bad, do it with your car and report back the results.

If you look up the MSDS of MMO you would see it's lighter fluid and paint thinner.
Now how would that be okay for the transmission? I personally would say a simple no. On both the MMO website and the Bottle itself it mentions in crankcase oil and in gasoline but no where does it ever mention safe for transmissions.
Just stick to the 3 drain and fills and that will be the best for your transmission.
If you want more, look into Magnefine Transmission filter. It should be the 3/8" sizing. That's what fit on my wife's 95 civic.
