Default Question for 96-00 Civic autoX / road racing people

Do any of you have info on this rear "square" upper strut/support bar?

Thanks

Check your rules - that would be illegal under SCCA rules and probably won't comply with those of other road racing sanctioning bodies. No specific information, although I do have opinions (since you make the distinction)!

Looks like it attaches to the trunk area just behind the tailllights. Or if you swing it around it could function as a harness bar.

But no classes except Mod class would that be legal.

It connects towards the rear trunk wall area sloping slightly down from the strut mounts to the rear trunk wall area. Hope that helps.

Well kinda behind the taillights but a bit lower to the trunk floor - kinda like the BENEN rear trunk brace.
What happened to going out "for fun" to a local autoX - not for comp.
Road Racing... I guess I can understand the restrictions there.

Looks like it might be overkill on a street driven 6G. The chassis is already decently stiff back there even for serious autoxing. I don't run a rear strut tower brace at all anymore because it didn't pass the "test". The "test" being 'if it doesn't specifically help me set faster times then it doesn't go on the car...'

This is IMO and in specific reference to 6G Civics, but strut tower braces (front or rear) are something that I spend very little of my limited funds on. The return on investment is minimal to say the least.

Autocross still has rules. That would bump you to someplace like Prepared or Modified, where you'll have fun getting taken to school by little British cars.

Just use an ordinary rear brace and you'll still be in a "normal" class like Street Touring or Street Prepared.

You know me... I don't care what class I'm put in as long as I get a chance to have fun and be with friends.

As long as you don't care then go for it. I don't see many prepared cars anymore.

go for it man......it woudl put you in a street-mod or prepared class anyway. I don't know about other egions but here in NNJR, it is mostly hibrid civics in street-mod anyway. One guy actually races his civic si in street mod, because there is no one to race against in prepared in his class.......so he has to chase us....but he loves the challenge.

Cool!

Thanks for all the replies!
If I get serious about autoX and/or trackevents I could take it off to adhear to any of their rules.

I run the dark amethyst pearl EK hatch. My car is relatively mild for SM....should actually compete in STS if you ask me.....not nearly on the same level as Kevins turbo GSR hatch.

Well I don't get why you had to tell me this?
The product is more than likely not worthless but more worthy than your post!
But then again... these are just opinions of ours aren't they.

Looks like a Cusco rear strut brace. I don't think it would do much because everyone would be using that design in their cars if it actually made a big difference over a conventional brace. IMO, don't was your money on that. Your money could be better spent on many other things.

Well as it turns out... none of you have any "info" on this rear upper bar - yet!
So I'll let this thread die out.
Thanks for all your replies!

Did I? I hope I didn't. Sometimes I get in a frame of mind when I'm concentrating and forget who's talking to me It's the age thing kicking in.

I remember ya Rod though. I was in a new place meeting new faces was kinda overwhelming
