*Pic Inside* Can someone please tell me what car is this from??
EM1 = 99-00 SI. Unfortuantely, that VIN stamp may be fake. First off, the first three digits should be 1HG or 2HG. Second off, even if you put 1HG or 2HG in, the check digit (used to prevent fraud) is wrong.
Yeah that is what throwing me off as well. I tried all combinations as the first 3 digits, and making sure total of 17 digits.. carfax or google don't recognize any combinations..
I'm looking into buying this GSR. The guy says its a B16 tranny.. But that vin plate is very confusing.. Never seen anything like that before, is it common to have a fake vin plate like that?
So should i stay away from this car? I'm confused now..
don't want an LS tranny.. that is the only possibility i can think of what the real tranny would be..

I think the reason why its not showing is because they spray painted over the vin plate. remove the paint carefully and you might be able to get the full vin #. Unfortunately its not your car to do that.

what baffles me is. you can see the rest of the 14 digits.. The first 3 digits of the vin are same for all SIs.
That aside, even if it was painted over, the VIN itself is invalid. It's not a real VIN. Put every possible iteration into any VIN authenticator, and they'll all tell you that the check digit is wrong. It's not a real VIN.
Forging the VIN stamp is a long way to go just to try to pass an LS transmission as an SI transmission, especially considering that you'll know the difference as soon as you put the car on the highway. Forged VIN plates are a surefire sign of stolen hardware.
From what I know the first 3 charecters of the vin are not etched but printed on the actual vin plate, after that they etched.
When I put 1hgem1153yl002383 it comes up as an sI

I put that vin into Honda parts website

Some are done like that, but the engine and transmission stamps are not.
Either way, I'll say this again, the paint doesn't matter. The VIN doesn't pass a basic check digit verification.

if that is the correct vin, its clean. https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck

They all say the same thing. For the fourth time now, the VIN is invalid. psychobear, of course it does. On the top of this page, click "Tools", then click "VIN Decoder". That page will explain to you how a VIN works. To make matters worse, the tools that actually list engine in the engine even say it has an SOHC. So, an SI, with an SOHC motor, but a DOHC transmission?
Doesn't work like that.
eghatch, that tool only checks the VIN againt stolen and total loss records. A fake VIN won't be in those databases, because it never existed in the first place.

NotARacist is 100% correct on this one..
Thanks boss.
Even if it is a B16 tranny. That is not a Honda Vin.. Heck that is not even a valid vin.. I can only guess its a LS tranny.. I can't confirm because the guy's speedo isn't working either :-

Even if the picture is worth 1 word.. It clearly shows there is a 53 not a 9 as carfax suggests..
Definitely a copy..

You can use a GPS to tell you how fast you're going, if the tach works you can still decide the gearing. "65mph, x rpms = y or z transmission". You've gotta take tire size into account too. Maybe her stuff that I cannot remember right now.
if it checks out as the correct gearing, ask your local court clerk if they can help you make sure the car and its parts aren't stolen.

County Clerk can't check anything if they don't have anything to run in their database. ie this bad vin in pic..
