DX base model, can have very limited selection of options.
LX can be nearly as spartan as built up DX or equipped to the gills close to the EX. Can have rear drums or discs.
EX has the top of the line engine or choice of engine, everything that is optional in the LX is almost standard, save for the leather interior and gimicky 'gold' trim. Also when new while the car is being serviced at the Honda dealer they give you a reach around while you wait.... OK not really.
Special Edition models are similar to LX models but with a twist, at least with 94-97 models, they may have SE only parts. With 94-97 they have one type of drivetrain, a B2/AT with a unique emissions/exhaust system which gives it a LEV or ULEV rating. I forget which one. And they all seem to be Grandma Gold in color... but this may not hold strictly true.
EX-R is Canada's EX model.
