HELP! cam gears off?
Having a problem getting these cam gears to line up. Seems the bold lines and marks line up then they sorta go off. Any ideas? The crank is at TDC.
Sorry I don't know why the image keeps flipping.

I never trust aftermarket cam gears. If you are degreeing in the cams it doesn't matter, but if you are running stock cams and want them timed correctly I take a stock cam gear and the aftermarket one and scribe a line from the stock gear onto the new one so you have a base for them. Even if you do this and if the cam gears are in fact at 0, it will never be 100% dead on. I had a set of JG gears that I had to scribe the marks on because there were none and it didn't matter because they were off at zero anyway. The only way to be sure everything is where it needs to be is to degree them.
Also take into account that if the head has been milled or the block has been decked the height will be different and the cam gears will be off as well. It's very rare to have them line up exactly unless its a stock untouched engine.
Thank you for the help. I haven't got to degree the cams yet, due to the fact I don't have compressed air. I'll call around and see if a local speed shop can do it.
Summit/Jegs sell basic universal kits and I still use the basic summit one I bought years ago on everything from blown alcohol v8s to mild d16s.
The satisfaction of doing it yourself and KNOWING it's right where you want the cam timing to be is worth the price of the kit.
What do you need the compressed air for?

Rocket, why are you quoting a mis informed post such as this.. someone of your knowledge should vastly know that ge cams line up on the dotted lines, not solid. And that all motors can line up correctly if setup correctly.. unless otherwise instructed to do so.
Maybe the GE ones are better, I have never used them but every other cam gear I have ever set up were not 100% at TDC. If you are not using a degree wheel, then how would you ever know that any company's gears are scribed correctly at TDC, you can only do so much by eye. That is why I gave reference to a "stock, untouched engine", factory markings, factory cams and gears. The picture above looks fine as long as the crank gear is at approximate TDC.

Thanks guys, I decided to try and sell these BC stg2 turbo cams (PN#BC0011) and go with factory GSR's, that wont require degreeing. I bought these cams about 5-6 years ago without much research. Called Speedfactory in Tacoma WA, they quoted me $400 to degree them and said they had better results with GSR's and ITR's. Thanks for all the help. You guys are the reason sites like these rock!
- The reason the engine looks new is because its been hot tanked.
