Welding in new rear quarters and rockers, new hood, dent pull and bondo on the roof, full paint, $3700-$4000

 

Holy $%##, I aint doing $4000. lol

 

Start hunting craigslist for bodyshop guys with reputations and make shift spray booths in there yards to cut the cost down considerably. Going rate for bodywork at a shop is $80+ an hour, adds up quick when there isnt a good panel on the car

You could cut the rust out yourself, buy the replacement panels, replace the hood and hood trim piece yourself, and just give the car to someone to weld,fill, paint for $1500-$2000

 

I purchased the replacement quarter panels and rocker panels already. it would be that much to paint just the parts that were fixed?

 

Got cpl buddies that have done some welding. don't know how good their skills are

 

$2,000-2,250 for that work with a fresh respray.

 

Tell us how you came to 2 grand for this job? Is the labour free?

2 grand is blown after only 25 hours labour at any body shop and thats a low end shop rate, no materials, paint etc, and for a car that needs new rear quarters on both sides, new rockers both sides, a TON of massaging on the roof... and a full respray... 2 grand?

 

It will cost too much to have it repaired professionally unless you want to spend more on the car than it will be worth.

The $3.5 - $4k is realistic for what a reputable collision repair shop would charge in my area.
You can buy one without rust and have it shipped for less than that.

Don't want a professional job??

Get a gallon can of bondo and a half dozen cans of Duplicolor paint. About $100.

Maybe you should just enjoy the time you have left together and not put her through all that.
