Help me w/ a ZC D16
I've been looking for a ZCD16, locally, and by using this chart:
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/specs.htm
I assume the engine is in the 90-93 Integra LS and RS. Today, I dropped by a friend of mine's. He had a '93 LS Integra there. I popped the hood and looked at the block code. It read B18B1'. Now, I'm really confused. I'm looking for this engine:
ZC
D16A8/A9
1595cc
4 cyl, 16 valve
DOHC
9.:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
What car do I need to look for to get this engine from (US-Spec)? Unless I can only get a JDM-spec engine, then what would I need to replace in a '91 Si hatch other than Engine/tranny/ECU?
This would all be a transplant, into a '91 Civic Si hatch

Alright... first of all, the engine you want is the JDM ZC. Direct bolt in to your 91. You can even use your stock ECU, though it would be best to use a PG7 from 88-89 teggy. Don't bother with the D16A8/A9 engines. Get a JDM ZC. The US engine you're thinking of comes in the pre 90 Teggy (I think).
Agreed. Also, the USDM version of the ZC you're thinking of is the D16A1, it came in 88-89 Integra LS's.. It's a POS. Like mentioned above, get the JDM DOHC ZC.

Looking over the links provided, I found what i think I'm looking for; a 88-91 ZC+tranny+ECU for $795 at Nippon-Motors. Am I correct? What else would be neccessary for the swap? Are there any specific sites I should look at for parts? Has anyone here dealt with Nippon-Motors? Were they satisfied?
When I was researching motor swaps for my CRX, I just about bought a ZC. I called up about 5 different places, and Hmotorsonline.com, and nippon-motors.com seemed to be the best deals out there... As for your question, YES, that's all you need - actually, you can just go with the motor itself and that's it.
It really is a direct bolt-in, there is only 1 minor wiring change (easy) and it'll run. I think the ZC is actually the easiest motor swap out there, I like it, but I chose to stay USDM SOHC instead... MaD SkIlLz VtEc y0!!!!!

I have two ZC swaps one in my 88 HB and one in my 89 CRX SI. Both were a piece of cake. I have been happy with the reliability and performance. I got both of mine through Japan Direct here in Raleigh, NC. They will ship any where in the states. I have dealt with Johnny Morris, Fred, and Jeremy. http://www.usedengines.com/home.asp 919-781-5005
This is a great engine for a first swap or novice. You might want to skip the ZC tranny, if your Si tranny is OK cause you need a different set of axles to mount up to the tranny. Install new seals, timing belt, water pump, & thermostat while the engines out. Parts same as 89 teg.

Well, there's some problems I'm facing.
I don't have the equipment to do a swap. I've got a guy who will swap the engine for $400... but he says he won't do it if it requires any actual modding.
I'm at a loss, I have no idea what to tell him.
BTW, I'm in Atlanta GA (ATLpimp).

Like I said no modds necessary unless you want to do some After Market Tweaking. Mine have all been basic drop in except that I had to go from DX DPFI injector wiring to SI/ZC MPFI on the 88 but only one wiring change for the cylinder position senors is on the front cam end (the distributer is on the other). No mount modification necessary (uses old motor mts). 137 HP, DOHC, 28-35 MPG. Ihave added pwr steering and it makes this car a joy to drive. Send me an email and I will point you to all the links.
If you live close I'll trade even for the car (91 SI Hatch) for either my 89 CRX SI (Repainted reuplostered front seats etc) or my 88 DX hatch both have the ZC installed and i really want an SI hatch.
Are you serious? That sounds like one hell of a deal!
What's wrong with the '91 CRX? That would be the one I'd be most interested in.
The Si I've gotten my hands on has some problems that I've noticed.
1-Either warped rotors, or out of round drums
(the car shakes pretty bad when applying the breaks, heavily)
2-It does NOT have a D16 in it. The original engine went out around 160K with a bad knock in the bottom and a dead cylinder. In it's place is a D15B2 (92 bhp).
I don't know if this would affect your decision for trading or not...
The car also has a high-flow muffler, originally installed in '93 or so I've been told.
It looks like the factory pea-shooter, but the sound is much deeper. It also has an AEM short-ram intake. I can probably get my hands on the factory intake, if you'd prefer it.
If my calculations are correct, the engine in it now has ~75K on it.
Where is it you're located?

I don't think I'd be up for a trade. I've started to look at this car, and I've been told I found a gem... especially for what I paid for it. The body is in mint condition, new paint, the interior is a little roughed up. There's some burns in the seats inside. Everything's going to get replaced anyways.

Sorry to hear that. If you change your mind and want to bypass the rebuilding process My CRX is Silver (Painted Jan 2002), it has a ZC 8-10K miles since the swap, low miles SI transmission, new CV axles, newly reupolstered front seats, 10.5 inch front brakes, Front strut bar, cold A/C. Lots of TLC and time invested. My problem is I am almost 50 and need the back seat for grand kids. If you run across another 88-91 SI HB I'll pay a finders fee for the right car. I want a sunroof bad! BTW what color is the one you have?

I'm really thinking this over...
I just had new tires put on the front wheels yesterday. It has the CRX Si rims on it now. The engine could use an oil change, and a tune-up.
If I was to accept the trade, would you be willing to meet me half way?
Can you get some pictures of your CRX Si? I can most definately get pics of the Hatch. BTW, it's red (the same red originally offered by Honda in '91).
...also, I think we should start corresponding through email. My email is
evenflowd@hotmail.com
If you need to send pictures that are relatively large in size, please send them to

the zc pulls great for its price. i'd do this swap but i live in CA so thats a big no-no, so im just saving for a b18a. my friend had a zc in his 91 civic hatch si, a week after he dropped it in, the motor was torn to shreads because he never checked the oil level, there was literally no oil. so now he has a b16, and he checks the oil every week.
Hey TPR...thanks for the reply...I'll give the guys a call soon...as for a civic I'll keep an look out out for you...even though I live in the rust belt,my area (naperville,IL ) is in a Technological corridor...Lucent,BP,ADP,Bell Labs..etc..a LOT of people come here from milder climates and after a while many put the old cars up for sale..I turned a buddy onto a 90 black civic si from GA...he just picked it up for $900.00 it had 140k miles with dull paint but he's happy.
