Default Camshaft Help for High Compression pump gas GSR

I don't know a whole lot about camshafts so I came here to get advice on what would be a good fit for my engine.

I do not daily drive this car so idle quality is not a concern. It is a show/autocross EG hatchback and will see high very high RPMs most of the time it is driving.

$$$ is not my only deciding factor but I do have a good deal on Skunk 2 camshafts. I have been looking at the Pro 2+ or Pro 3+ camshafts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Engine Specs:
GSR Head (milled .007 almost nothing, Runners cleaned up by very mild port to remove casting flaws no full port/polish)
Supertech dual valve springs
Supertech Aluminum Retainers (W/ recomended Supertech keepers)
Supertech Valve guides
Supertech Valve stem seals
Supertech Flat face stock size valves
Skunk 2 LMAs
Stock thikness cometic headgasket (81.5mm bore)
ARP head studs
GSR Block (81.5mm bore)
Skunk 2 Alpha Connecting Rods
Supertech 12.5:1 compression pistons (81.5mm)
OEM Honda bearings and thrust washers
Intake/Header/Throttle
Skunk 2 Ultra Street intake manifold
Skunk 2 Alpha 70mm throttle body
Skunk 2 Alpha megapower header
Engine Management: Hondata S300

Engine is together and running on stock GSR camshafts at the moment and it feels great I'd like to get everything possible out of it and this is the next piece I need.

Can you explain the reasoning for Pro 2 camshafts instead of say Pro 3 (Or Toda B instead of C?). Are these better suited to 2.0L B series motors? I have read reviews and looked over dyno sheets on all of these on comparable setups and I don't mind if I have a little more camshaft than I can use with my current setup. I have another B series head that I am saving to have some serious port work done on and I will be able to take advantage of the extra airflow (Don't want to end up having to repurchase camshafts they are an expensive part).

You won't have the displacement + compression to use the larger cams efficiently. Even with a ported head later on you will want displacement so use the cams properly.

IMO a pro 3 style cam should be paired with 2L and 12:1+ compression and correct supporting mods. If this was a B20vtec, it would be a different story.

agreed. it definitely be a different story with a 2L ... in that case, it would've been - Pro3s, M24XX, DDTECHs, Toda C's and some BCIV's! LOL

You're going to want a camshaft that has unstaggered primaries. Go with a company who offers dual big primaries in which you can retain low/midrange while transitioning into vtec.. This will help with "acceleration" out of the corners. There are a lot of great options out there, some higher cost wise then most But worth it.

PMed more info.

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm doing some more research now and I will post up choice and dyno results whenever I finally get around to picking a set. Everything I have seen shows my compression is up towards 12.8:1 so I'm hoping I can take advantage of that.

Will do! I will tell you it is really a fun little motor in this EG hatch. I haven't been driving it yet until I get my RSX sold.

12.8:1 compression on pump gas? Is that safe?

I did tons of research before posting but I don't know everything about camshafts so I asked to get some more information. I was leaning toward Skunk2 Pro 2s and everything my research showed was Pro 2s were great with a stock like idle. I was also interested in the Pro 3s but after talking to a lot of people they will be more than my 1.8L can use. After talking to lots of people I am now choosing between DDtech and the Skunk2 Pro 2s. I have to get back in touch with DDtech to figure out some more things.

Its not an issue at all. 93 octane and proper engine management. I've had the engine running for around 500 miles now. I just swapped from and Edelbrock Performer X to the Skunk 2 Ultra Street. Once I base map it again it I'm going to get it on the dyno and we will see how she runs (and finish the tune of course). I'm also finishing up some other suspension components on the hatch before I can take it out again as well.
