Had to remove the battery cable, now that everything is back together and working. There is no power to the radio, after market pioneer cd/stereo, under dash fuse box says audio fuse optional(#28) 10a, checked that, it looked fine. under hood fuse showed radio(backup) 7.5a, looked fine, replaced that just in case, still no power to the radio. What else can I check?

Check the fuses with a multimeter/continuity tester. looking fine and testing fine are 2 different animals. RonJ has several posts on how to test this stuff.

 

Ok, am I correct in thinking there are only two fuses dealing with the radio correct? I no longer have the cover for my under dash fuse box. But i think I found one online.

 

I tested what i guess are the two (although they say optional and backup) radio fuses, both test fine.

Still no power to the stereo. Everything else in the car electrical wise works fine.

 

The diagram shows the location of 10A dash fuse 28.

Check the fuse on the back of the radio and it's connections.

 

Have you tested for power at the back of the radio or are you just looking at it waiting for it to light up?

 

Holy heck, what black wizardry is this?

1) Checked voltage at under dash fuse key on--Good
2) Removable faceplate stereo so i checked voltage at the base where face plate connects. --nothing.
3) removed stereo--
4) checked 10a fuse at back stereo--good
5) unplugged wire harness(adapter to fit with orig honda plug) from back of stereo- checked voltage--no good
6) unplugged harness from orig wire harness, check adapter harness for continuity--good
&) checked voltage at harness plug(blue) --good
8) plugged adapter back into orig wire harness, checked voltage at the end of the adapter--now good(?!?!?!)
9) plugged adapter back into stereo--check voltage at connector where face place connects --Now good!?!?!?!?
10) plugged in faceplate--stereo comes on.


So All I did was check voltages down the line, plugged everything back in and its working now. I have not swapped anything, plugged anything extra in, it just started working.

It stopped working when i removed the battery cable and reseated it a coupel times the other day, that's all. Is there something in the stereo(safety mechanism,) that 'sleeps' itself so by me disconn the power at the back of the stereo reset everything and let it come back on again.

I have no idea what happened.

 

Did you disconnect the negative or positive?

Sometimes aftermarket radios need a hard reset after a power loss.

 

I've run into what you described before but I don't have an explanation. Some people said I had a majic DVM and to keep it functioning at all cost.

I've asked people I felt were sharper than I and couldn't get a reasonable answer.

Some of what I've seen if someone cares to chime in.

Complaint: Power door locks don't work.
5 wire reverse polarity. Operate door switch to confirm and get nothing. Check for 12V to relay pack, power confirmed. Check for 12V on the lock wire when operating switch, door locks start working.

I've had the same scenario with power windows, factory keyless entries, cruise controls and both factory and aftermarket audio systems.

I just had this happen to the radio in my car a year ago maybe. Pull it out, probe for voltage and the effer powers up.

I don't have that meter anymore but have had the same happen with the one I currently have.

 

Negative cable.

if that's the case, would hope there would be an easier way than to take out the stereo.

edit: Looked all through the manual, only time it mentions being disconn from battery is to say pre-programmed memory will be lost.

Oh well.

 

Well I guess it's something that it not only happens to me.

 

Disconnecting a battery end, and then reconnecting it will not cause anything to not function, you are not telling us something, so long as it actually worked before.

First tell me why to disconnected the battery......

 

I agree, it should not do anything but it did. and it did work prior.

I was having an issue with the car not starting. no crank, just lights coming on. I unplugged the neg cable because I was going to check the connections to the starter. It was after I reattached the neg cable and then found the actual problem of my car not starting (rubber pad that activates clutch interlock switch crumbled apart, penny glued in it's place fixed that) and was merrily driving along that I noticed my stereo no longer showed any sings of power.


I recall eons ago, dad I were putting a speaker into the drivers side of one of my cars. No sound coming from speaker. we ended up taking out the speaker and cutting the speaker wire and testing it, testing it fine, put it back in, soldered it, and it worked.

Weird things for sure.
