Default 98 honda civic wiper motor failure

Hi everyone!

I have a problem with my 98 honda civic's wiper system. Originally the wipers would not shut off. I turned them on one day, and found that they stopped responding to the switch at all. I had to pull the fuse to get home. I read that it was almost certainly the wiper motor, so, I picked up a new one and replaced it.

After replacing the motor, they no longer are stuck on, but they do not work at all. The fuse is back in, and I actually replaced the wiper switch because it felt broken. But that did not help. I can hear the relay (?) Clicking at different speeds when I put it in different modes, but the wipers do not move.

I am curious if there is a set position that I need to leave them in after I put it back, and maybe that's why? But I'm stumped

Is the motor even getting power? Did you check that before you swapped out motors?

Did you buy a new or used wiper motor?

The wiper motor was getting power. Or at least before I changed it - the wipers would not stop without pulling the fuse. I didn't check the voltages, but I will again.

I purchased a remanufactured motor.

I have also noticed some strange bugs with the blower for the AC - I know it may be unrelated, but could there be a short in the electrical system that caused the original problem?

Run power and ground wires directly from the battery to the wiper motor. Does it run?

Well, an update - I had an extra motor, and changed them. It runs properly now except it stops dead center of the windshield. It does this on all cycles, but wipes the whole glass. I think the problem was just the motor - I'll return it.

I don't know how the thing figures out home, so, I have no idea what to check next, any ideas?

The motor has a separate park motor that may be bad. Other possibilities are a bad park wire between the motor and ICU or a bad ICU. My bet is on a bad park motor.

That's what I've also read from other places, so I'm going to return it and try a *THIRD* motor -.-

Alright, I replaced the motor again, and it seems that the parking problem is not fixed. I also started having problems with my dome light and door locks being flaky. Half of the time they work, and half of the time they do not. I read that the ICU also controls these components. Since it is flaky, do you think it is bad, or could there be a grounding issue somewhere?

You need the service manual.

Start by double checking the wiper motor installation. Proper installation involves aligning the motor and link in the park position.
